History
The Catalan Sheepdog is a breed of pyrenean dog used as sheepdog in the Catalan area of Spain.
Description
Height ranges in size from 18 to 20 in (46 to 51 cm) and weight from 45 to 60 lb (20 to 27 kg) in weight for males, with females being smaller.
The Catalan Sheepdog coat is long and either flat or slightly wavy, and can be from fawn to dark sable and light to dark grey. There is also a shorthaired version of this breed, but it is nearly extinct.
Character/Temperament
They are apparently so clever that they guard sheep without needing the instructions of the farmer!
Breed Health
Catalan Sheepdogs are prone to hip dysplasia. Their average life span is 12 to 14 years.
