UK Toys saw Carol Hatch awarding CC's I think for the first time and she found her Dog CC and BOB in Dolly Kavanagh's Ch Denemore Forbidden Treasure, whose breeding I have given recently following his Res CC at Crufts, handled of course by Sean. Bitch CC went to Sue Stanbury and Margaret Unwin's Ch Inixia Aureole, bred by Sue and by Ch Inixia Artful Andrew out of Inixia Leonora. Reserves went to Mr & Mrs G Stone's Genevieves Flirtie Bertie (Invergarick Conquestador out of Genevieves Silk Bonnet) in dogs and Carolyn Lee-Farnsworth's Graycaz Blissful Thinking (Ch Caswell Copper Tiger out of Lindendale Lisa at Graycaz) in bitches. BP was Mary Whitehill's Amicae Rudi Bare, following on from his Crufts BP award.
Forbidden Treasure went on to take BIS, a super acheivement and one which I am sure made both judge and handler extremely proud, sadly Dolly was unable to be present to witness this.
Flirtie Bertie also had a super day at the Keighley Open SHow where he took BOB and Best AV Toy and went to to BIS.
I understand that the Government is preparing to extend the PETS Travel Scheme to allow dogs from the US and Canada to enter the UK without the need for quarantine from next year and it wil be interesting to see how long it will be before we see some exhibitors and their dogs from N AMerica in the ring over here. It is not unknown of course for dogs from the USA to be exhibited on the continent and I am sure that there will be folk in the STates who may well consider if taking a holiday in the USA bringing along a dog or two and spending some of their time taking in our shows. It could of course also mean that US bloondlines will be available for use in the UK and again it will be itneresting to see what if any difference this makes. It certainly offers the prospect of the possibility of quite a change, one that perhaps ten years ago would not have been dreamt of. |

At UK Toydog a historic win for Dolly Kavanagh's Ch Denemore Forbidden Treasure who having won DCC and BOB under judge Carole Hatch went on to be BIS. Sadly Dolly was not there to witness his success but I know Sean must have been thrilled Congratulations - this little dog has more than fulfilled the promise I prophesied for him when I first saw him at Blackpool last year. What a boost for the breed. RDCC went to the Stone's Genevieves Flirtie Bertie who next day went to Kieghley DCS Open Show and himself took BIS!! Carol tells me that he gained his Junior Warrant last year - not an easy achievement these days. BCC was Margaret Unwin and Sue Stanbury's Ch Inixia Aureole and RBCC was Caroline Lee-Farnsworth's Graycaz Blissful Thinking, B Puppy went to Mary Whitehill's Amicae Rudi Bare.

In pre Beginners Debbie Deuchar and Shamal Sequin came 2nd and Ms B Hiscocks with Danica Regal Rag A Muffin were 6th, In Beginners Christine Butcher took 2nd with Glyncae Salt And Pepper and 4th with Glyncae Just A Mischief. While in Test A Mrs A Stilgoe won 3rd with Happy Pappy Copper Junior and 4th with Danica Queeny. Eight Year old Adam Hiscocks won Best Junior Handler. The Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club held its Championship Show on Sunday 7 April at the Ryton in Dunsmore. Two good sizes rings and plenty of space, and a fine if a little chilly day outside. No doubt a full report on the day will be given in the next Newsletter (which reminds me I have omitted to mention earlier that the Spring Issue of the Newsletter should be with all members. Yet again another full and interesting issue produced by Carolyne who I am sure is already hard at work on the next issue)
Our two Judges were Jean and Roger Banfield who at the end of the day agreed on their joint decisions. Dog CC and BIS went to Dolly Kavanagh's Ch Denemore Forbidden Treasure following quickly on his success at UK Toys. Handled as usual by Sean Carroll, this time Dolly was present to see him sweep all before him. Bitch CC, her third, went to Caroline Lee-Farnsworth's Graycaz Blissful Thinking thus giving her her title subject to KC Confirmation. Bliss, who also had a successful day earlier at UK Toys having taken the Res CC there, took BOS and was also dam of the Dog Res CC winner Graycaz Green is Envy. Sired by Ch Graycaz Othello, Envy took RBIS. Reserve Bitch CC went to Carolyn and David Roes, Sunshoo Imastar Lighter by Ch & Ir Ch Ringlands Treasure Island out of Sunshoo Imastarlett. Interestingly the Dog CC and Bitch Res CC winners share the same sire and Bitch CC winner is dam of the Dog Res CC winner. B.P.I.S. was Mary Whitehills, Amicae Rudi Bare, who of course has taken this award at Crufts and UK Toys.
At the end of the day our two judges were presented on behalf of the Club with the original framed drawing by Deirdre Ashdown from the UK Review from the Millennium Book of the Papillon, a drawing which had originally been based on Jean and Roger's well known Ch Kingshaven Miss Molly. Presentations were also made on behalf of the Club of framed prints to Roger to thank him for all his work as our previous Show Manager and to Bubbles Wood Davis as a token of the Club's appreciation for all her work over the years in a number of capacities, Chairman, Secretary and Assistant Secretary spanning a good number of years. A presentation was also made to our current show manager Dick Terry and his partner Sue Virgo in congratulations of the recent birth of their son Harry and as a present for their forthcoming wedding.
All in all a very enjoyable show, having the opportunity to simply watch since the one bitch I had entered had decided to come into season, I thought their were some lovely papillons on view both in the younger classes and in the older ones which bodes well for the breed.
I had some news from the FCI Asian International Show held in Japan where Ellis Hulme was judging the breed. Bitch CACIB, BOB and Group 3 went to Chie Ejima & Hiroshi Yamakado's JKC Ch. Queen Bless JP Practical Magine (by Int. Ch. Glasafon Connor ex Int. Ch. Swedish Ch. Silenzio's Lady Luck). The Dog CACIB went to JKC Ch. Creat Land JP The Himuka (by Int. Ch. SU Ch, SON NAT UCH. Norduch Silenzio's
Danny-Key ex JKC Ch. Chris Carol of T. Titan Wald JP). Reserve Dog CACIB & AOM was Int. Ch. JKC Ch. Am. Ch. Ekbacken's Emil I Lonneberga and Res Bitch CACIB and AOM was JKC Ch. Star Ship JP's K-C Dragon. Nice to see an English sired dog at the top and I am sure Jean Leveritt who of course bred Connor will be delighted. Other English breeding also figured well in the placings, Award of Merit also went to AOM
Am. Ch. Queen Bless JP Top Inspiration (again by Int. Ch. Glasafon Connor ex Int. Ch. Eng. Ch. Gonmyn Inspiration) Winners Dog was Queen Bless JP The Victory Road ( by JKC Ch. Nouveau Lord of Misrule ex Queen Bless JP Special Edition) and Winners Bitch Queen Bless JP It Is True Love (again by Int. Ch. Glasafon Connor ex Queen Bless JP Executive Star)
In Ireland The Combined Canine Club, held their International Ch.Show on Saturday 30th March where Bitch Green Star , B.C.A.C.I.B.and B.O.B.,and shortlisted in group was Marion Sloan's Sunshoo Imastarlett, bred of course by Carolyn and David. Dog Green Star was Margaret Widera's Oldcourt Captain Kid at Balamunch who apparently was too young for C.A.C.I.B. so no Res CACIB award made. Res B.G.S. Res C.A.C.I.B. went to Hoffin's Balamunch Sweet Memory
In Australia Jimmy Simpson judged the Papillon Club of NSW Easter Championship Show and found his Dog CC and BIS in Kirsty Lewis' Grand Ch. Cavashon Red Hot. Bitch CC and RUBIS was Sharon Mahoney's Ch. Mondelise Silver Sails. Reserve CC's went to Lynne Spooner's Gold Wings Trademark (Imp Denmark) and bred by Pia Johnson and in bitches C. Hunt's Ch. I understand that the show went very well with well filled classes and a low absentee rate. Irene Robb conducted a well received presentation of the Club's gifted Junior Handlers. Bubbles Wood-Davies and Roger Banfield were presented with a Papillon print to thank them both for past duties. Judges Roger and Jean were presented with a print by Deirdre Ashdown to thank them for officiating and Dick Terry was presented with a 7 foot tall crab apple tree as thanks and a wedding gift to him and Sue who were getting married on the 10th

I have only the briefest of details of the South Wales Papillon Club held on 14 April. Best Dog and BIS went to Sue Stanbury's Inixia Hugo's There. Best Botch, RBIS and BOS went to Inixia Jacks Jewel and BP to Inixia's Fly-By Night, so quite a day for the Inixia kennel.
I have just had the sad news that George Wheeler has passed away, at the time of writing the details of the Funeral are not known. George was of course Madeline Wheeler's husband, Madeline being the owner of the Melchester affix and although it was Madeline who was normally seen in the ring, George was often around supporting and took a keen interest and pleasure in Madeline's successes. After Madeline passed away George retired from the show scene although still kept in touch I understand with the breed through their many friends in the Breed. I know George leaves a daughter Jeana to whom I sympathies go and if anyone would like information about the funeral, flowers etc Jeana can be contacted on 01204 660260. |

Ron John was the Judge at the S Wales Papillon Club Open Show on 14th and he found his BD and BOB in Sue Stanbury's Inixia You Know Hugh, RBD was Teague & Morrell's Serenglade Setanta for Temelora. BB,RBOB & BOS was Sue's Inixia Jack's Jewel, RBB was Teagues and Morrell's Serenglade Saffriesa For Temelora. Best Puppy was Sue's Inixia Fly By Night. Best JH and JH 6-11 yrs was Victoria Price . JH judge was Kathy Codd , sadly there were no entries in the senior class.
I am sad to tell you that George Wheeler husband of the late Madelaine Wheeler of the Melchester Papillons has died. The funeral is to be next week sometime but I have no details. George was a great support to Madelaine and they became interested in exhibiting when they spent some years in Malaya where George was part of the Country's Electrical Organisation and it was there that Madelaine worked for the Malaysian KC On their return they changed breeds from GSDs to Papillons and Madelaine of course became involved in the Papillon Club George was a most likeable person and attended many Papillon activities, he will be remembered kindly by older members. |

There seems to be a lull as far as news is concerned at the moment both from the UK and Overseas. That should shortly end certainly as far as Overseas is concerned as of course as I write these notes the PCA Specialty is about to start in the USA. Held from 24 to 28 April in Kansas City this year, the confirmation classes will be judged by Charlotte MacGowan who as well as being a successful Papillon breeder and exhibitor under her Rorralore affix is also well known in Shelties and Dandie Dinmonts. There will of course also be competitions for agility, obedience etc, Sweepstakes classes, seminars, talks, banquets goodness knows what else so it will be a very busy 5 days for exhibitors and visitors. I am sure some of us envy the opportunity they have to spend five days living papillons (although knowing how exhausting a one day show here can be they must have some stamina!!!) but I suppose because of the sheer distances they have to travel they simply have to do it this way. It is I suspect the only chance they have each year for everyone to attend the same show, something which of course is not the case here. I know a lot of folk over here follow the results with interest and of course these days with the internet wee get the results almost instantly.
The Papillon Club AGM will be held, as members will all know, on Sunday 5 May and this year before the AGM the Committee have organised a talk by Mrs Heather Ridley, well known breeder of Havanese, on Neo-Natal Puppy Rearing and Care of the New Born which it is hoped will be of interest to members and will perhaps encourage more to attend the AGM. I do hope so, the AGM gives all members the opportunity to be involved in the running of their Club as well as to ask any questions they may wish of the Committee. The day will start at 10.30 am with coffee on arrival and Mrs Ridley's talk will commence at 11.00am and will end around 12.30 to 1.00pm, members will have an opportunity of asking questions after the talk. Lunch will follow and the AGM will start at 2.00pm.
At the Ladies Kennel Association of Scotland Open Show young Angela Savage had a very good day taking BOB and Group 1 with her Abbeyton Tiger Bay and going on to take RBIS.
At the other end of the country, at the Isle Of Wight Open Show, Karen Marshall took BPIB with her hone bred Kazkell Tai Dream and went on to take BPIS, this show not being judged under the Group System. Tai Dream's sire, Kazkell Tai Chie took BOB |
| Our Dogs |
At the Ladies Kennel Association of Scotland Angela Savage with her dog Abbeyton Tiger Bay having won the Toy Group went on to be RBIS. Another who has been winning well at the Open shows is Crufts' BOB Jimmy Simpson's Penang Bold Horatio who went BIS some weeks ago at Spire Toy Dog and followed this up by going BIS again, this time at Goole Open Show.
They say 'No news is good news' but not for a Breed Note writer!! I am sure that many of you are having successes at the shows - let us hear about them. It won't be long before all the Ch shows are upon us and if the weather stays as lovely as it is here they will be something to look forward to. I have never seen so much flower in the garden at this time of year All the flowering trees are out and the fruit trees are in bloom With all the spring flowers and the early start to the summer ones the garden is beautiful. I shall be so sorry to leave it when the time comes |
