At WELKS Dog CC and BOB went to Glenn Robb and David Roe's Ch Sunshoo Imascarlet Encore, bred of course by Carolyn and David and by Ringlands Erik the Red out of Daneview Dainty Bizzie Bee at Sunshoo. Bitch CC went to Carolyn and David's Daneview Dainty Roxanne at Sunshoo, bred by Anna McKnight and again by Erik the Red out of Ch Graycaz Wont You Come Home to Daneview. This was her first CC after some five Reserves. Reserves went to Anna's Daneview Rhythm and Blues in dogs who is litter brother to Roxanne and Caroline Lee Farnsworth's recently crowned Ch Graycaz Blissful Thinking in bitches. Best Puppy was Glen Robb's Gleniren Jump N Jive. All in all a very good day indeed for both Erik's offspring and the Sunshoo and Daneview kennels.
WELKS also held Breeders Take Classes, these classes drew much interest at Crufts, and again the Graycaz Papillons entered their team winning the Stakes class on the day the Breed was classified and returning the final day to win the Overall Stakes Competition. Many congratulations to Caroline and her team of exhibits and handlers.
At the Perthshire Canine Club Open Show Mrs. Ann McGregor's homebred Pyatshaw White Heat took BOB and went on to win the Toy Group. At the same show Mrs. Jeanette McKay's Jaylanjay Amastunner won Best Toy Minor Puppy and went on to win Best Minor Special Puppy in Show.
News from Overseas, in Australia at the Gunnedah triple header shows Sharon Monk' Aus Ch Mondelise Silver Sails continued her impressive run of successes taking Best In Group on both days, RBIS All Breeds on the first day show and BIS All Breeds on the second day.
At the Papillon Club's recent Championship Show the new Welfare Fund was successful in raising much needed funds, the Raffe raised £54.50 and the Stall £128.60. Congratulations to all concerned. I have been asked to make a special mention of the lovely Papillon Cross Stitch cushion made and donated by Janet Chandler which drew a great deal of interest and admiring comments.
The Papillon Club of America Specialty was held on 24-28 April. It seems that there was a problem with the holding of the AGM, apparently the 'Roster' did not arrive until too late which it seems meant that the Meeting was unable to vote on anything. I must admit I do not quite understand their system, we of course have to have our Agenda up and published way before the AGM, but whatever it meant it did mean that the Meeting could not proceed. Apparently the Treasurer was the only Officer attending. Makes our AGM's look quite smooth????
BIS went to Ch. Caspian's Blue Print owned by Mrs. Robert E. Maytag, Annette Svennson and Judy Hearney and bred by Annette Svennson, she is by Caspian's Goldfinger out of Caspian's Sonya. BOS was the well known AmCh & JkcCh Queen Bless Success Story owned by Mrs. Dorothy Hageman and bred in Japan by Chie Ejima. Winners Bitch and BOW went to Medina's Strawberry Fields owned and bred by Sandra Haber and by Ch Mushroom Hill's Chili Pepper out of Ch Mysin's Luck O'The Irish. Winners Dog who came from the 6-9 month puppy class was Queen Bless JP Imperial Ruler owned by Jerrilyn Naylor and Angela Pickett and again bred in Japan by Chie. Awards of Merit went to Ch. Loteki Beach Party, Ch. Loteki Her Royal Highness, Ch. Janais Hocus Pocus, Ch. Titian's Cammerri In Sable and Ch. Sparling's Colvard Andrew.
Good to see some English bloodlines to the fore, Success Story, a former BIS Winner here himself, whilst of course bred in Japan is all English breeding being sired by Jean Leveritt's Int & Jap Ch Glasafon Connor out of a daughter of Eng Ch Nouveau Lord of the Dance and Eng Ch Gonmyn Inspiration. Imperial Ruler too is all English Blood, albeit both parents having been bred by Chie in Japan. Like Success Story he too goes back on Connor as well as Jap Ch Nouveau Lord of Misrule and Eng Ch Blackpark's Gordon. |

Some very good results to report for the Breed this week. At the Kirkcaldy & District Canine Club Open Show Rimzim Orlando Graycaz owned jointly by 9 year old Neil Leiper and Caroline Lee Farnsworth (who is a little older!!!) took BOB and went on to take BIS handled by Neil's mum. The following day at the North of Scotland Toy Dog Open Show Orlando again took BOB and yet again BIS. What a cracking weekend for young Neil who with a borrowed dog also took Best Junior Handler at this Show.
The same weekend another of our marvellous band of Juniors had a super day at the Spire Toydog Open Show, 12 year old Emma McLaughlin took BOB with Pinelan Alpine Snow going on to take BIS.
Yet more success for the breed on this weekend took place at the Buckinghamshire Canine Society Open Show with Jo Davidson -Poston's Ibstock Bright Spark for Spinillons taking BOB and going on to end up RBIS. A super weekend for Papillons.
Malcolm Green has not been too well lately, he recently had to have a short spell in hospital although I am pleased to report he is now back home. Malcolm and Joanna earlier this year had problems with a flood at the house and all the worry over the repair work did not help.In the midst of all these worries Joanna had a local reporter come and do a feature in the local newspaper on the Papillons and although Joanna says the reporter was quite charming, as often is the case with non doggy people writing on dogs, the information printed was not perhaps as 'well written' as one would like. Nonetheless the paper reproduced some charming colour pictures of the dogs even though they managed to omit that one of them, Evina, was jointly owned by Joanna and Hazel Davis. Shortly after Malcolm was released from Hospital he had a display of his lovely art work at a local art exhibition, with some help from family, and was delighted with the interest shown by the public. He managed to sell well over half of the 42 pictures he had on display
Norma Staff and Pat Munn were delighted to hear from Genji Ozeki in Japan that Jap Ch RInglands Gambling Phillip continues his winning ways out there. At the Yachimtia Dog Fanciers Club Phillip BIS and the following day at the Yokohama Baybridge Dog Club he took BOB and a Group Placement. Shortly after at the Chiba North Kashiwa Oakhill KC Show he took Reserve King.
I was sorry to hear from Isobel Urquhart that she, Gordon and Cathy had lost another of their oldies following the recent loss of Buccaneer. This time it was their well known Ch Blackpark Camio at the age of 17. Camio as everyone will know had an outstanding career in the show ring, a very glamorous black and white bitch who had taken some 19 CC's and 11 RCC's, a Group 1 and Group 2, in the days when such wins were far less common for the breed. She was Top Papillon in 1987 and a BIS Winner at both the Scottish and Welsh Club Championship Shows as well as RBIS at the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club Championship Show. She will be remembered with much fondness by those of us who saw her in her heyday in the ring and I am sure is greatly missed by Isobel, Gordon and Cathy. |

At Birmingham the Dog CC and BOB went to Sue Morrell and Thesbina Teague's Ch Serenglade Sebastian at Temelora (Serenglade Sakime x Lindendale Louise) bred by Mrs Greenslade. Bitch CC her third went to Joanna Green's Rimzim Kiera thus giving her her title subject to KC confirmation. Kiera, who I think is Joanna's first home bred champion is by Graycaz Hoyti Toyti out of Rimzim Kaiulani. I know that this result gave Joanna and Malcolm a welcome lift especially as Malcolm has been under the weather lately. As usual Kiera was handled by Caroline Lee Farnsworth and Joanna would like to express her thanks to Caroline for all her efforts in campaigning Kiera so well.
Reserves went to Queenie Bruce and Amanda Bruce-Jackson's home bred Ch Tijuana Minstrel (Tijuana Music Maker x Marshlea Fleur de Mai of Tijuana) in dogs and Carolyne Allward Chebsey's home bred Lorah's Livin on the Run (Ch Diquest Fairy Glen x Alphastar One Vision of Lorahs) Best Puppy was Liz and Alan Bartam's Burghbridge Royal Tribute (Burghbridge Royal Falcon x Burghbridge Hilare), again home bred.
Roger Banfield tells me that his computer has not been at all well suffering from a very nasty virus, as a result of which he has now got a new e-mail address which is kingshaven@blueyonder.co.uk
At the Alfreton Canine Society Open Show Charmont Tommy Tucker owned by Mrs Stamp in Leicester took RBIS, another good win for the breed in light of my notes a week or so ago which reported a weekend of such successes.
Queenie Bruce has asked me to mention that it is again time to send in your photographs for the Northern and Eastern Counties Papillon Club Calendar competition. Can it really be a year ago I wrote asking for entries??? Closing date for entries this year is 30 June, photos, which should not be larger than 8" by 6" otherwise regrettably they will have to be returned, plus entry fee of 50 pence per photograph should be sent to Queenie. The price for the 2003 Calendar will be £5.50 plus postage if required and these should be order as early as possible to ensure you are not disappointed, order with a deposit again to Queenie. Queenie tells me the Club has held the price of the calendar constant for the past eight years but this year have had to accept that a slight increase is necessary. I know lots of people look forward to the calendar so as Queenie says make sure you order early. Last year at the Open Show where of course all the photos are displayed for voting there really were a lot of on entries showing how popular this competion has become over the years |

I am now back on line again with a new virus program and a clean computer so I can receive e-mails again, however if anyone sent me any mail between Thursday 2nd May and 14 th May I will not have received it as I had to ask my server to remove the huge number of messages, most of them returned mail which I had not sent as the worm KLEZ H had done so in my name. If you sent me news then, please send it again.
At Birmingham Ch Show Ellis Hulme found his DCC and BOB in Teague and Morrell's Ch Serenglade Sebastian at Temelora, RDCC was Queenie Bruce and daughter Amanda's Ch Tijuana Minstrel. BCC went to Joanna Green's Rimzim Kiera and RBCC was Carolyne Allward-Chebsey's Lorah's Livin' On The Run B Puppy was Alan and Liz Bartram's Burghbridge Royal Tribute. The BOB was also Best Veteran.
At the Watford Agility Club Jo Davidson-Poston and Zebedee(Ibstock Bright Spark) won the Mini Agility Competition, looks as though they have found another world to conquer!!
I hope to have more news in next weeks notes it is amazing how much I glean from the internet but don't forget I like to hear by post and telephone as well so let me know of all your successes and any thing you feel that others would be interested in. The notes should not just be about show results I am sure there is lots going on out there Let me know about it!! |

News from the Hibernian Ch. Show in Ireland where the Dog Green Star and BOB went to Dolly Kavanagh's home bred UK Ch Denemore Forbidden Treasure Bitch Green Star was Marion Sloan's Sunshoo I'm A Starlett bred by Caroline and David Roe and Reserves went to Mr. & Mrs. R. Beck's Baladora French Mahogany in dogs and Carolyne Woods-Cox's Austrene Showstopper at Carasweet in bitches.

Bitch CC went to Ruth Johnston's Bonifee Sophisticated Lady bred by Josie and John Mann and by Lindendale Lionheart of Bonifee out of Lordsrake Walkie Talkie. Best Puppy was Jeanette McKay's Jaylanjay Amastunner.
News from the world of Agility where at the Milton Keynes Agility Show in the Eukanuba Mini Knockout Lynda Stangle's Hemdale Alex the Avenger, bred by Janet Garrett, had a successful day qualifying for the event at next year's Crufts.
An e-mail from Eileen Bates in S Africa tells me that the previous weekend they had had two shows namely Pretoria Toy Dog & Jubilee Toy Dog and their eleven & a half years old got Best Veteran in Show on both days, although Eileen omitted to send the dog's name!!!! I do know the dog concerned was sired by Eileen's S.A.Ch. Panda's Image of Meziara who is by Meziara Manhattan out of Gaystead Shona Belle. Eileen and Nev will be back in the UK on 4 August for a two week stay so will no doubt try and fit in the opportunity of getting to a few shows.
Following the recent AGM, details of which will no doubt be reported in the next Newsletter, I have been asked to mention that at its earlier Meeting the Committee had been pleased to offer two members a Vice Presidency and Life Membership of the Club, Pearl Peacock (Alcala) and Joanna Green (Rimzim) both of whom I am sure need no introduction. Both have been gracious enough to accept the honours.
Shortly after the AGM the Committee held a further Meeting to discuss the production of the next Handbook, and I hope shortly to be able to give some more information in this respect, and to consider two matters referred back to the Committee by the AGM. It was reported at that Committee Meeting that three Members of the Committee had tendered their resignations which the Committee accepted, namely the Secretary Mrs A Borg, the Show Manager Mr Dick Terry and Committee Member and Welfare/Rescue Co-ordinator Mrs S Stanbury. Mrs Carolyne Allward Chebsey was unanimously appointed Acting Secretary and has been kind enough to agree to take on these responsibilities as well as the already onerous duties she performs as Newsletter Editor. Carolyne has for a number of years been Secretary of a large all Breed Canine Society so brings much experience with her to this role. All correspondence in future should go to Carolyne at Lorahs, 44 Gilbert Road, Lichfield, Staffordshire, WS13 6AX Tel. 01543 256394.
Mrs Eileen Roberts has kindly agreed to take on the mantle of Welfare/Rescue Co-ordinator and the Club is fortunate in her agreeing to do so as Eileen has had some experience in this field. Eileen can be contacted at 20 Glen Rise, Glen Parva, Leicester LE2 9HA Tel 0116 278 1976. As far as the Show Manager's responsibilities are concerned the Committee was at that Meeting unable to appoint an acting replacement at the present moment. The Committee felt that there may well be amongst our wide and talented membership a member who perhaps has some experience in this field and who would be willing to take on the role and would welcome hearing from anyone who feels they could contribute in this area. If anyone is interested they should contact the Acting Secretary who will be pleased to take matters forward with them. Like many other of the tasks the various Committee Members undertake it can at times be onerous and time consuming, it is an important role in the Club's activities and needless to say one which the Committee hope can be filled as soon as possible. The Committee also co-opted Miss Chris Pougher as a Committee Member |

At it's last Committee Meeting the Papillon Club accepted the resignations of three members: Mrs A Borg(Secretary), Mr D Terry(Show Manager) and Mrs S Stanbury who has also resigned from her position as Rescue/Welfare organiser. The Committe unanimously appointed Mrs Carolyne Allward-Chebsey as Acting Secretary for the remainder of the year and she will carry on as Newsletter Editor. Mrs Eileen Roberts has taken over as Rescue/Welfare, she has some experience in this field. The Committee also co-opted Miss Chris Pougher as a Committee Member. The Show Manager 's post is vacant and needs to be filled and the Committee asks that if any of the members feel they would like to take on this task they contact the Acting Secretary, anyone taking it on will have the full support of the Committee, Mrs Allward-Chebsey can be contacted on 01543 256394 or 77 9962 4334 and Mrs Eileen Roberts on 0116 278 1976
At the SKC, Judge Mrs Joyce Mann found her BOB and DCC in Caroline Lee-Farnsworth's Graycaz Green Is Envy with the RDCC going to the Stone's Genevieve Flirtie Bertie. BCC was Ruth Johnston's Bonifee Sophisticated Lady and RBCC went to Mary Whitehill's Amicae Rainbow High. B Puppy was Mrs Mackay's Jaylanjay Amastunner
Eilish Neally sent me the results of the Hibernian Ch Show judgen by Mrs K Opara from Poland. BOB and GSD was Dolly Kavanagh's UK CH Denemore Forbidden Treasure, RGSD was the Beck's Baladora French Mahogany. GSB was Marian Sloan's Sunshoo Imastarlet and RGSB was Caroline Woods-Cox Austrene Showstopper at Carasweet.
Jane Garret of the Hemdale Papillons sends news of Lynda Stangle who with her pap Alex(Hemdale Alex the Avenger has Qualified for Crufts at Milton Keynes Agility Show in the Eukanuba Mini Knockout. Well done!
I mentioned the N&E Cos Calendar last week. Queenie Bruce has now sent me fuller details: The closing date for receipt of photographs is 30th June. and they should be forwarded as soon as possible. They should be no larger than 8" x 6" otherwise they will be returned. They should be accompanied by the fee of 50p for each entry and a sae for returns. The price of the 2003 Calendar is £5.50 plus postage if required and should be ordered with a deposit early rather than later to avoid disappointment. The price has remained constant for eight years but rising costs have made the modest rise of 50p necessary. This is something which gives enjoyment every day of the year so send your pictures in good time.
Mavis Pratt had her other eye operated on on Monday and although it is too soon to tell all seems to be well. I know we all wish her a return to good health. Thinking of Mavis brings me to the subject of Phalene registrations. It is now possible to reregister your Phalenes after they are a year old by applying in writing to the Registration Dept of the KC. Eileen Roberts whose telephone number is above can give you more information. |

I have been asked to announce that at its recent Meeting, the Committee of the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club approved a proposal to offer a Vice Presidency to Mrs Bubbles Wood-Davis (Claretta) and that Mrs Wood-Davis has graciously accepted this honour. The Committee at the same time offered Mrs Wood Davis a Life Membership which Mrs Wood Davis has decided not to accept as she feels she would like to continue to support the Club financially by continuing to pay her annual subscription. This is the third Vice Presidency the Committee has bestowed recently in recognition of the service given by the three recipients over many years and the Committee are delighted to welcome all three and look forward to having their valuable and extensive experience passed on when needed, at any of the meetings they care to attend.
Our Treasure, Doug Colyer, has been under the weather lately having been confined to bed with a very nasty virus causing a Viral Vertigo attack of the inner ear not only causing nausea but also making it impossible for him to retain his balance. The Doctor says that the virus has to run its course so Doug will be confined to bed for about a week or so, we all hope you get well soon Doug.
At Bath Bitch CC and BOB went to Sue Victor and Emma McLauglin's Pinelan Amaryllis (Pinelan Alpine Treasure x Longcrags Aurelia of Pinelan) bred by Mrs Smith, a first I believe for her and possibly for owner??? Dog CC went to Caroline Lee Farnsworth's home bred Graycaz Green Is Envy (Ch Graycaz Othello x Ch Graycaz Blissful Thinking) a third for him thus giving him his title subject to KC confirmation. Green Is Envy is the third Champion this year for Caroline, the other two being Envy's dam, Ch Graycaz Blissful Thinking and of course Joanna Green's Ch Rimzim Kiera, who of course is handled by Caroline. Reserves went to Rosemary and David Ayris's home bred Ibstock Marksman in dogs (Ch Ibstock Mark of Distinction x Tussalud Miss Terrie Belle) and in bitches to Rosemary and David's home bred Ibstock Adorable at Tussalud (Ch Ibstock Mark of Distinction x Tussalud Miss Terrie Belle) in bitches. A nice double for them.
Best puppy was Diane Merchant Giles & Jenny Casey's Burghbridge Royal Tribute, bred by Liz and Alan Bartram. At just 8 months this young man has only been shown twice taking BP both times, previously of course being BP at his first show Birmingham. Royal Tribute is handled by Jenny's daughter Melissa as Diane is still not able at the moment to do the dogs justice with handling them herself following her recent problems and is thrilled that Melissa does this so well as both she and her mother are relatively new to the breed. Diane had a double celebration at Bath as her Shamal Masquerade Alcala, owned by pearl Peacock, also took the Puppy Dog Class.
I was very sorry to hear from the USA that Pearl George's husband Monte had passed away. Apparently he was taken ill shortly after Pearl returned from the Specialty and died on 27 May. Pearl's Kvar Papillons are of course well known throughout the Papillon World and although tending to stay in the background Monte was a great support to Pearl. Mark and I first met Pearl and Monte many years ago during one of their visits to the UK and although neither have been back to this country for some years we kept in touch with them through the e-mail. Monte will be sadly missed not only of course by Pearl but also by many Papillon folk who appreciated his common sense and fair mindedness |
