Two lots of successes Overseas for UK Breeders. Diane Merchant Giles was delighted to hear that Shamal Out of the Blue exported August last year to Laura Koncel has gained his USA Title. Handled by his owner he has been lightly shown owing to Laura's work commitments which makes his success even more pleasing. Diane tells me that she has in fact only exported four dogs and all have gained their titles overseas, the other three being Aus Ch. Shamal Souvenir, AM Ch. Shamal Shezat Arista and Am Ch. Shamal Shifra.
Carolyn Allward-Chebsey too has reason to celebrate, Lorahs Jazz Master was taken back to S Africa by Eileen and Neville Bates and now has gained his S African title. Jazz Master is the Carolyn's first overseas champion and her second in the breed, the first of course being UK Ch Lorahs Spellbinda.
At Southern Counties Bitch CC and BOB went to Liz and Alan Bartam's home bred Burghbridge Our Princess, I believe a first for her, she is by Ch Corralyn Scottische out of Burghbridge Hilare. Liz and Alan have been thrilled with the number of cards and congratulations they have received from fellow exhibitors and say that this has doubled the enjoyment they felt at this win. Dog CC went to Mary Whitehill's home bred Amicae Rudi Bare, I believe possibly a first also for him although he has of course this year had quite a number of Best Puppy awards to his credit. He is by Sunshoo Imapaddington Bear with Graycaz out of Kingshaven Quazy Rhythm. Reserves went in dogs to Sandy Munn's well known Ch Ringlands Hologram, bred of course by Norma and in bitches to Caroline Lee Farnsworth's Ch Graycaz Blissful Thinking in bitches. Best Puppy was Michelle Osborn's Tykkydewas Rowanberry.
At Three Counties Bitch CC, her second, and BOB went to Irene Water's Vella Ennis, bred by the late Toni James and by Glasafon Successor out of Vella Evergreen. Dog CC went to Mrs Back's Kazkell Tai Chi, a first for dog and possibly also for owners, he was bred by Karen Maskell and is by Bobbards Hunky Dory out of Palmosa Clochmerle Reserves went to Irene and Glenn Robb's Ch Kingshaven Principal Boy at Gleniren in dogs and Sue Stanbury's Inixia Jack's Jewel in bitches. Best Puppy was Sue Stanbury's Inixia Party Poppet.
At the Papillon Club of Ireland Championship Show Bitch Green Star and BIS went to Marion Sloan's Sunshoo I'm A Starlett bred of course by Carolyn and David Roe. Dog Green Star went to Dolly Kavanagh's well known Ir & UK Ch Denemore Forbidden Treasure. Reserves went to Marion's Austrene Once Upon A Time in dogs and Mr. & Mrs. Beck's Baladora Mark of Elegance in bitches. On the same day as the Papillon Club Show was the Irish Toydog Society Championship Show where this time BOB and Dog Green Star went to Forbidden Treasure with I'm A Starlett taking the Bitch Green Star. I understand this gave her her Irish Title and that she is the first Papillon bitch this year to be made up in Ireland. Reserves went to Margaret Widera's Oldcourt Captain Kid at Balamunch in dogs and Dolly's Snowlord Swiss Maid for Serenglade in bitches.
Denise Welsh's Jadedoran Paris, known as Harlie the Magnificent continues to shine in agility, at the Supa Dogs Agility Show she won the Senior Agility Class and is now an Advanced Senior Mini.
At the Blackburn & District Canine Association Open Show Helen and Marion Verity's 16 month old Macstrak Minuet took BOB and went on to RBIS.
Shirley Colyer had a good weekend with her young puppy, Cendals Mischevious Lord for Shirando, bred by Wendy Clark. At the Suffolk Agricultural Two Day Open Show he took BPIB and went on to RBPIS 2nd Day and the following day at Three Countries won Puppy Dog. |

I am very sorry that there were no notes last week but I am at present suffering from a severe attack of shingles and I was in such pain last week that it was impossible to write them. I am now in less pain but my eye is half closed and my mouth drawn all to one side so life is still very uncomfortable. I will try to bring you up to date. First of all at BathCh Show Judge Mark Whitehill found his BOB and BCC in Sue Victor and Emma McLaughlin's Pinelan Amaryllis what a great thrill for young Emma- Congratulations, RBCC was David and Rosemary Ayris' Ibstock Adorable at Tussalud. DCC went to Ch Graycaz Green Is Envy, this was the all important third making him the third Ch bred or handled by Carolyne Lee-Farnsworth to be made up in the last 6 weeks, the other two being Envy's mother Ch G Blissful Thinking and Joanna Green's Ch Rimzim Keira who was made up at Birmingham. Sadly Joanna has not been able to attend many shows and so has never seen her win a ticket. She has been campaigned on her behalf by Carolyne. RDCC also went to the Ayris - Ibstock Marksman. B Puppy was Dianne Merchant-Giles and Mrs Casey's Burghbridge Royal Tribute.
The weather was poor and at one point the tent where the Papillons were benched had to be evacuated because the roof was coming down at the other end Apparently Pap exhibitors and show staff were very helpful removing belongings etc.
At S Cos Ch David Roe's BOB and BCC was Alan and Liz Bartram's Burghbridge Our Princess, RBCC went to Carolyne Lee-Farnsworth's Ch Graycaz Blissful Thinking. DCC was Mary Whitehill's Amicae Rudi Bare and RDCC was Sandy Munn's Ch Ringlands Hologram. B Puppy was Mrs Osborne's Tykkedewas Rowanberry
Denise Sheridan has asked me to correct the report of SKC Her Ringlands Little Red Rooster at Beasher was placed third in Open Dog and not as stated. As this was his qualiying Stud Book number it was an important placing.
The Papillon Club have appointed three new Vice Presidents viz Mrs Joanna Green; Mrs Pearl Peacock, and Mrs Bubbles Wood-Davis. All have accepted the honour
Helen Verity's Macstrak Minuet at only 16 months old won RBIS at Blackburn & Dist open Show on 19th May. As BIS was a Newfoundland he was as big as one of its paws!!
Sad news from Caroline Allward-Chebsey that Pearl George of the Kvar Papillons has lost her husband Monte. He became ill shortly after Pearl's return from the Speciality but passed away on 27th May. They had had 39 wonderful years together |

Despite the fact that there have been a good number of Group Wins at Championship Shows for the Breed over the years, up until now only one Papillon had ever taken the BIS in award, that of course being the legendary Ch Pierre of Oakridges at the WKC in 1974. However at Border Union at long last another papillon took the final award, Carolyn and David Roe's Sunshoo Imacaptain Scarlet. Taking his first CC on the day, he has three Reserve CC's to his credit, he is full brother to last year's Top Papillon Ch Sunshoo Imascarlet Encore who is owned jointly by David and Glenn Robb. Sired by Ringlands Erik The Red At Sunshoo out of Daneview Dainty Bizzie Bee At Sunshoo, a mating which previously had produced Sunshoo Imascarlet Erika and her litter sister Sunshoo Imascarlet Ribbon, both CC winners and previously the former was a Top Puppy and the latter Runner Up.
Carolyn and David had been unable to make up their mind which of Imacaptain Scarlet, or Ritchie as he is known at home, and his brother to keep so ended up running both on. At the time they came to make their ring debut Carolyn and David were in the middle of moving home as a result of which they were unable to give either the training they would have wished and Glenn Robb offered to take on Encore which he did of course with much success. Carolyn eventually managed to give Ritchie some training and although he was shown lightly last year on several occasions he ended up getting the Reserve CC to his brother, as is often the case the one brother, Encore, matured quicker than the other. Now clearly Ritchie has come into his own, and what a way to win your first CC.
Needless to say Carolyn and David are over the moon, unfortunately David was unable to be present at the show although he was fortunate in being able to enjoy some of the excitement as the BIS scene was being avidly described to him at the time over the telephone by Hazel Barr. Hazel apparently did not need to tell David Ritchie had gone all the was, David guessed it by the roar that went up and the fact that Hazel became quite speechless!! Carolyn and David have been overwhelmed by the telephone calls and cards of congratulations and would like to thank everyone for their support, especially those Scottish folk who travelled back to the show on the Final Day to lend their support.
Bitch CC went to Sue Stanbury's Inixia Jack's Jewel, I believe her first, and she is by Inixia Jack The Lad out of Jadedoren Let's Party to Inixia. Reserves were Caroline Lee Farnsworth's Ch Graycaz Green Is Envy in dogs and her Ch Graycaz Blissfull Thinking in bitches. Best Puppy went to Lynflyer Lady In Red.
News from the Irish circuit, at the Swords & District Canine Club Championship Show Dog Green Star and BOB went to Dolly Kavanagh's Ir & UK Ch Denemore Forbidden Treasure, Bitch Green Star to Dolly's Snowlord Swiss Maid for Serenglade from Puppy. Reserves went to Caroline Woods-Cox's Sunshoo I'm A Hollywood Hero at Carasweet in dogs and Mr. F. Cousins' Vandyke Ermine in bitches. From the Munster Agricultural Championship Show Dog Green Star and BOB was Mrs. J. Kilpatrick's Sonsirae Right 'N' Royal, Bitch Green Star was Mr. & Mrs. R. Beck's Baladora Mark of Elegance, again from the Puppy Class. Reserves went to Mr. & Mrs. R. Beck's Baladora French Mahogany in dogs and in bitches to Mr. D. & Miss E. Neally's Carrigteen Apatura Iris.
I have been asked by Joyce Allison, Secretary of the S Wales Papillon Club to mention their Championship Show which as usual will be held in October. Normally of course Dog World do not allow Breed Correspondenets to publicise forthcoming shows, their view quite rightly being that there is a place for this in the back of the Paper. However they do allow us to mention them briefly if there is something different about a show, and since this is the case here hopefully it will be permitted. I would however make the point that unless there is something unusual about a show I cannot advertise forthcoming Clubs shows. This year the S Wales Club will not be using the usual Barry venue and they have had to find a new venue for their what will be Pearl Anniversary Show. This will be held on 6 October at the Markham Sports and Leisure Centre, Blackwood, Gwent. There are going to be lots of prizes , sashes and sponsorship, Carole Hatch is donating watercolour portraits of BIS and BPIS and the show will be videoed by a professional photographer, the video, which will also include details of the pedigrees of the dogs being viewed apparently, will be available for sale after the show. Full details of what will be on offer etc can be seen in schedules which are now being sent out, if you have not received yours by 25 June give Joyce a call on 01242 583752.
At the two say Southanpton Open Show held recently BOB went to Norma and Pat's Ch Ringlands Cover Gril's Story who went on the take RBIS. |

My shingles are still with me although less painful but I am now inflicted with something called Bell's Palsy which is what has pulled my face all out of shape making it difficult to speak, eat or drink as my lips are semi paralysed on one side. I cannot drive as my left eye is half shut. I really do feel like Quasimodo and am not encouraged by my Doctor who tells me that nothing can be done and I may have to wait some weeks before I am back to normal. It will go eventually he says. I was greatly cheered by the arrival of a lovely flower arrangement sent by Elizabeth Knowles on behalf of the Papillon Club during last week - many thanks to all.
At S Cos Ch Show Geoffrey Davis judging made Vella Ennis owned by Irene Waters BOB and BCC. this was her 2nd CC and she was of course bred by the late Tony James, RBCC was Sue Stanbury's Inixia Jack's Jewel. DCC was Back's Kazkell Tai Chi and RDCC went to Irene and Glenn Robb's Ch Kingshaven Principal Boy at Gleniren. B Puppy was Sue Stanbury's Inixia Party Poppet
News from Denise Welsh that Harlie the Magnificent aka Jadedoren Paris won the Senior Agility Class at the Supa Dogs Agility Show on 5th June and is now an Advanced Senior Mini She now has to win four Championship Classes to become a Champion. I know we all wish this great little dog and her handler success in achieving her title.
Alan and Liz Bartram have asked me to thank all the people who sent cards, phoned and conveyed their congratulations to them when Burbridge Our Princess won the BCC and BOB at Bath. Liz says they were very touched and overwhelmed. Please keep me up to date with the news while I am not able to be at the shows |

At Blackpool it was a second CC and BOB for Carolyn and David Roe's Sunshoo Imacaptain Scarlet. Following on from his recent success at Border Union he went on to take Group 2. Bitch CC went to Queenie Bruce and Amanda Bruce Jackson with their home bred Ch Tijuana Tiller Girl (Ch Martika What's The Story out of Marshlea Fleur De Mai of Tijuana). Reserves went to Irene and Glenn Robb's Ch Kingshaven Principal Boy at Gleniren in dogs and Liz and Alan Bartram's Burghbridge Olympic Gold at Christea in bitches. Best Puppy was Mrs Jones' Jaanjay Soul Sister
Jo Davidson-Poston's Ibstock Bright Spark for Spinillons had another good day this time at the Uxbridge & District CS Open Show. Although there were no breed classes Zeb, as he is known, took Best AVNSC and went to BIS 4, a good performance as I know this is a very popular show.

A number of our longer members will remember Edith and Ben Benson's daughter Margaret and will I know be as saddened as Mark and I were to hear that Mags as we knew her passed away suddenly some six weeks ago. Mark and I got to know Mags quite well during the time we used to visit Edith and Ben before they passed away and a couple of years ago we attended Mags' retirement do. Mags was very much looking forward to her retirement with the usual zest she had and it is sad that she only had a couple of years in which to enjoy this. Although she had been feeling a little under the weather, her death came as quite a shock, Mark and I had spoken to her on the telephone only a few months before and we were tentatively making arrangements for her to come and visit, something we were all looking forward to. Unfortunately Edith and Ben's remaining children, Peter, his sister in law Floss and her son Martin who still live at the old place in Gt Burstead, had mislaid our change of address as a result of which had been unable to contact us at the time much to our regret as we would have very much liked to have paid our last respects. |

Margaret Unwin who runs the Papillon Club Puppy Register tells me that as she is on occasion asked for older dogs and would be glad if, as well as puppies available, breeders would let her know if they have any adults for sale as she may be able to place them. She points out also that she passes on the details to enquirers and sellers but is not in a position to check on the suitability or otherwise of the homes or animals on offer and it is up to the buyer and seller to research for themselves if both are suitable. Margaret's tel no is 01243 862169
Eileen Roberts who runs the Welfare Service for the Papillon Club sometimes has dogs for rehoming due to adverse circumstances and she can be contacted on 0116 2781976 in case of need or by anyone wishing to give a home to a pap that has to be rehomed.
I am sorry to tell you that Freda Colebrooke of the Jadedoran Papillons passed away on 20th June. Shortly after moving to Co Durham Freda was diagnosed as having cancer. She was of course the breeder of Denise Welsh's Harlie the Magnificent the clever Agility dog whose pedigree name is Jadedoran Paris and I am sure her successes gave Freda a great deal of pleasure and pride |
