At the Junior Warrant Of The Year competition held at Discover Dogs where there were a number of Papillons participating, Inixia Perfect Host for Shirando, jointly owned by Shirley Colyer and Sue Stanbury made it through to the final 10 placings. Also short listed for the final cut was young Neil Leiper with Graycaz Give It Up For Thello.
News from the USA where at the AKC Eukanuba National Championship Event, BOB went to Am Ch Cadaga Civil Action owned by Linda Sohn and Kyoko Ozeki and bred by John Oulton. Civil Action of course is sired by the well known Am Ch Loteki Supernatural Being.
Very little news around at the moment so please do let me know of any successes or matters of interest for these notes.

I am very saddened to have to tell you of the death of John Grant of the Granasil Cavaliers and Papillons which he bred and exhibited with his wife Jean. John was a joy to meet at the shows always with a smile and a joke and he supported Jean at all times. He will be greatly missed and all our sympathies are with Jean and the family.
News from Ireland that Dolly Kavanagh's Ch Denemore Treasure Icon has won the 2002 Irish Showdog Of The Year last Saturday night. As always he was handled by Sean Carroll. Many Congratulations on such a prestigeous win!
Denise Welsh has let us know that Dawn Weaver and Dreamer(Tonring Just William) have qualified for Crufts in the Eukanuba Challenge. It has been a good year for this pair.
Mary Whitehill and Elizabeth Cochrane are once again giving a donation to Charity instead of sending Cards and anyone wishing to contribute can do so at the Scottish Open Show or at LKA where they will have a card to sign. The also wish everybody a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
May I also wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year. Owing to my eyes which become inflamed very easily I am sending only family cards this year so will also be making a contribution to a charity instead. |

No news this week probably because most of us are busy getting ready for Christmas. Hopefully by the time these notes are out members of the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club will have received their Christmas Newsletter. As I mentioned earlier a really super issue this time from Editor Caroline Allward Chebsey, just need a quiet half hour to sit and read it all.
Mark and I wish everyone a Happy Christmas and peaceful and successful New Year |

Ricky McKay judged the Papillon Club of Scotland Open Show and his BB and BIS was Elizabeth Patrick's Volpecula Tan Tamara, BD was Jeanette Mackay's Jaylanjay Amastunner and Best Puppy went to Caroline Lee-Farnsworth's Graycaz Drama Queen. Winner of the 6-12 yrs JH was Neil Lieper and the 12-16yrs Angela Savage.
I recieved a most attractive Christmas Card specially designed by Sue Obbard from the South of England Papillon Club and on the inside page is a most useful calendar of Show dates, the accompanying Newsletter gives some information. The Club hopes to hold its first Open Show on 22nd May 2004 at Chievely. If the weather is good the show will be held outside. Many offers of support have been received, and any donations of specials etc will be gratefully received. All members will be sent a schedule for the Show.
25th April is the date for the Toy-dog Walk for Charity and the proceeds will go to Macmillan Cancer Care. All Toy Breeds are welcome and it will commence at 10.30 am on the Ridgeway Berkshire(map Supplied) to 12.30pm Bring as many dogs as you like, the course will be one mile long and you can do as many laps as you like. Lunch will be at Chievely Village Hall and it will be followed byTalks and a Video and at the end the Club will hold its AGM. Contact Anne Borg 01865 762201 for sponsor forms and to book your Lunch.
Two Christmas Party/Matches have been organised One on 15th Dec near Exeter and the other on the 16th at Burgess Hill but unfortunately the details came too late for me to give the information far enough ahead I am sure they will be successful. Sue Stanbury hopes to have an evening get together for a meal on 22nd December near Exeter Call her for details
The Funday was such a sucess that another is planned for 26th June at the same venue. More details later. Sophie Langdon has agreed to be the Junior Representative for the Club and it is hoped that Junior Members will participate and are welcomed.
This neatly brings me to the subject of Membership Renewal which is due on 1st January 2004. Adult membership is £6 and Junior Membership for 2004 is £3 In 2005 it is hoped to introduce a Joint Membership and to offer a direct debit mandate. Items for the AGM agenda should be submitted no later than six weeks prior to the AGM on 25th April 2004.

I was sorry to hear that Les Young is far from well and is currently in Boston Hospital, I had of course not that long ago reported that Les and Ruth had recently celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary. I don't have many details at the moment but no doubt more will be known by the time these notes appear. Anyone who wishes to enquire or send a card might like to contact Bubbles Wood Davis on 01386 870963 as I am sure if there is any up to date news Bubbles will have it. I am also told that Rosa Wardle's husband has suffered a stroke and is also in hospital, again more information should be available by the time these notes appear. Our thoughts will be with Ruth and Rose, there's never a good time for such sad news but it somehow always seems worse when it happens around the Christmas period.
At LKA Carolyne Roe found her Dog CC and BOB in Gleniren Scarlet Monogram (Ch Ringlands Hologram out of Sunshoo Imascarlet Erika at Gleniren) owned and bred by Irene and Glenn Robb, this being his second CC his first having come earlier this year at Leeds. In bitches it was a third CC for Phil Shirley's home bred Cordonrouge Ciara JW (Glasafon Welsh Gold at Cordonrouge out of Cordonrouge Classic Minx) her first also having come at Leeds this year and her second at Belfast. This of course gives her her title subject to KC confirmation and I believe is Philip's first champion in the breed. Reserves went to Norma Staff and Pat Munn's Ringlands Denemore Chasing Rainbows bred by Dolly Kavanagh in dogs and in bitches to Queenie Bruce and Amanda Bruce Jackson's home bred Tijuana Georgio, who was also Best Puppy.
Show news from Overseas, where English breeding has had some success. At the big Stockholm International the CACIB in dogs went to Nordic Ch. La Rocca's Soulmate owned by George Yakes and bred by Birgitta Westergren. Soulmate's dam is a daughter of our own Nouveau Chevrolet being closely line bred to him. In bitches the CACIB went. Kaj Ganger's Sw, Dan, Norw, Gib, International Ch. Caratoots Complete Charisma. I must admit I still find the placings at these shows confusing being used to our system where the main award is the CC and it goes to the best of sex. At these shows there is a CACIB available as well as a CC, champions being ineligible to compete for the CC. Here in dogs the CC went to the fifth placed dog, the first four placings going to established champions, this being Ulla Hanis & Tina Frid's Siljans Disney JR who is a grandson of Ch Tussalud Storyteller. Both Storyteller and Chevrolet are of course sired by Ch Caswell Principality.
At the Brussels Winners Show in Belgium BOB went to Eng Ch Genevieve's Flirtie Bertie bred by Carol and Gerry Stone and now owned by Mrs Abelos Devos and he went on to take Group 3.
Some dates for your diaries. The South of England Papillon Club would like to advise the dates of the following events - The "Papillons Walk for Charity" is to take place on the morning of 25th April 2004, all toy breeds are welcome so do ask your friends to join us, sponsorship forms are available from Anne Borg 01865-762201, all proceeds to go to Macmillan Cancer Care, there will be lunch on offer followed by a slide presentation called "Papillons do other Things" featuring working and rescue Papillons the day will finish with the club holding its A.G.M to which all members are invited to attend. The date for the first Open show of the the South of England PC is to be 22nd May 2004 and our Fun Day Garden Party is to take place on 26th June 2004.Further details of any of these events can be obtained from Phil Shirley 01273-304865.
As usual 30 sets of C.C.'s were on offer in 2003, these were awarded by 19 Specialists and 13 Non Specialists (two of the four Breed Clubs having a judge for each sex). Of the 30 BOB's 24 were won by 17 different dogs and the remaining 6 by 6 different bitches. In dogs the 30 sets of C.C.'s were won by 20 different dogs and in bitches by 15 different bitches. Reserve CC's were won by 20 different dogs and by 20 different bitches. BP's went to dogs 12 times (8 different dogs) and to bitches 18 times (11 different bitches). 10 new champions were made up in the year, 7 bitches and 3 dogs. Quite what this says about the breed I will leave others to consider, but the fact that 30 BOB's were shared by 23 different dogs and bitches makes one think

Philip Shirley has sent me some very interesting statistics about the Show year 2003. I cannot give it all as it is too long for these notes but the following facts are intriguing. There was a full CC allocation of 30 sets of CCs at the 2003 shows, there were 19 Specialist Judges and 13 non specialists. BOB was won 24 times by the Dog and 6 times by the bitch. Of the 30 sets of CCs and RCCs Dog CCs were shared between 20 dogs and DRCCs between 22 dogs. Bitch CCs were shared between 15 bitches and BRCCs between 20 bitches, BPIB was shared between 19 puppies(11bitches and 8 dogs) and there were 10 Champions made up in 2003.
Thought provoking isn't it? I am particularly interested in the fact that the dog appears to be four times more likely to go BOB than the bitch! Have a Happy 2004 and I hope that your dog will feature amongst the successful statistics during it!!
