I have just heard that one of Jo Davidson Poston's papillons has gone missing from her mother's house on the morning of Wednesday 4 August, it is believed he was stolen. The papillon in question is called Sparky, he is a 10 year old castrated papillon male, black and white with an asymmetrical blaze and is quite heavily ticked. Sparky is on regular medication and will not survive without it. Please everyone keep an eye out for a new papillon that fits this description arriving in your area, needless to say Jo is distraught over this it must be the worst nightmare for us all. Let us all hope that he is found soon and returned home.

Phil Shirley writes "The South of England PC will be holding their Fun Day on Sat 22nd August at Bradfield Village Hall which is between Reading and Newbury. Anyone wishing to book lunch or requiring further details can call Anne Borg on 01865 762201 . Please do bring your baby puppies along as well as this is a great opportunity for socialising them, there will be loads of fun events & classes, the popular "have a go " agility course, junior handling , fancy dress, produce stalls tombola etc.so do come along and have some fun. There will also be the opportunity for your dog to take the bronze level Good Citizen test , so check out the criteria on the KC website , get training then come along and take the test."

I mentioned recently Michelle Osborn's Tykkydewas Masterdarcy taking the BP at Paignton and now have details of his breeding, he is by Tykkydewas Twylyte Dancer out of Tykkydewas Harriet, Dancer being the same sire as Tykkydewas Twylytepolka to Inixia who took the Reserve Bitch CC. Michelle had another good win recently with her Simply Sophia at Serenglade who took BVIS at the Plymouth and District CS Open Show under Claire Coxall. Sophia who is now 12 years old has quite a number of BVIS awards to her credit and is in fact Masterdarcy's great grandmother.

Pam Taylor had a successful day at the Highland CA Show in Inverness taking RBPIS with Pamhurst She's A Lady and the following day at the Falkirk & DCS Open Show taking BOB and RBPIG, quite a weekend.

A number of results from Ireland. At the Dundalk & DCC Champ Show GSD and BOB went to Marion Sloan's
Austrene I'm Electric who also took Group 3. GSB was Mrs Pearson's Tedlyn Twilight Breeze, RGSD Mrs Pearson's Tedlyn Starlight and RGSB Mrs Belshaw's Belvisaj Simply Chic. At Bangor Ch Show ,GSD. BOB and Group 4 Austrene I'm Electric, GSB Dolly Kavangh's Denemore Rainbows Cameo, RGSD Dolly Kavangh's Serenglade Gold Sovereign and RGSB Tedlyn Twilight Breeze. Finally at the Monkstown & DCC Ch show (and regrettably I don't have all the results) GSD & CACIB Serenglade Gold Sovereign, GSB & CACIB Denemore Rainbows Cameo and RGSB and Res CACIB Austrene Copper Glow

Nice to hear recently from Christine Gerhold Brown with information about a very nice win for Kilan Contessa Lady in Red now with Marion & Hunter DeCarlo in California. Having attended an International Show held over one weekend consisting of four separate shows. The system is not one known to me and perhaps it would be better to explain it using Marion's own words. "They judge the dogs based upon the standard and provide a written critique, then they are judged against the class, group and best in show.  Puppies need to make the highest rating at four shows = SG-1.  Which equates to Very Good.  The shows are very casual and limited to 350 entries of all breeds, including rare breeds not recognized by the AKC.  They must win under judges from two different countries and must be licensed judges in there country. Contessa Lady in Red made the highest rating at all four shows and took three Group 2 and one Group 3" Apparently this gives her the title International Champion Jungsten (Puppy)  Needless to say Christine is as delighted as Marion and Hunter to hear that this little girl has made such a great start to her show career.

It is indeed difficult keeping up with the various systems and titles available around the world. Earlier this year Mark and I let a little bitch go to a young lady who lives in Brazil and who is well know to Marichin Rosenstein. Some will have probably seen this young lady at one of our Club Open Shows she attended last year with Marichin.  This little bitch, Nouveau Tinkerbelle was litter sister to Nouveau Spot On who went to Marichin so they travelled out to the USA together. Recently at her first time of being exhibited Tinkerbelle went to a cluster of four shows held, at each of which she won the  Championship Junior Certificate thus giving her her Junior Championship (similar to here you need three Certificates under three judges to get the title)  We were pleased therefore to hear that on her second outing at a cluster of 3 shows she got three more of these certificates. It was pleasing to get photos taken of her in the ring being shown, although probably more pleasing are all the photos taken of her at home sleeping in the bed with the other dogs and enjoying all the home comforts!!!!

I hear from Sharon and Don Mahoney from Australia that they are bring a number of special prizes to be awarded at the Club Open Show in September

I have just heard that one of Jo Davidson-Poston's paps has gone missing.  Sparky is a castrated male, 10 yrs old B/W and heavily ticked with an asymetrical blaze.  He is on regulsr medication and will not survive without it.  He went missing from her Mother's house in Edgware on Wednesday(4th) morning.  Jo is quite distraught  if a new pap arrives in your area please let Jo know, I know all our sympathies will be with her in what is everyone's nightmare.

Three results from Eilish Neally in Ireland First,Dundalk & DCC.  BOBand GSD Austere I'm Electric who was also 3rd in the Toy Group, RGSD Pearson's Tedlyn Starlight, and GSB was their Tedlyn Twilight Breeze, RGSB was Belshaw's Belvisaj Simply Chic.

Main results from Monkstown & Dist Ch Show GSD & CACIB Dolly Kavanagh's Serenglade Gold Sovereign. Dolly also won GSB&CACIB with Denemore Rainbow's Cameo, RGSB  and RCACIB went to Clarke's Austrene Copper Glow

We had a glorious day for the EELKS show at Newmarket and I think Philip Shirley enjoyed his large entry.  I was able to be at the ringside and thoroughly enjoyed seeing the paps especially the puppies! BOB was Shirley Colyer's Inixia Perfect Host for Shirando JW.  It was so good to be back amongst the Papillon People!

Phil has asked me to remind you about the S of E PC Fun Day: ' The South of England PC will be holding their Fun Day on Sat 22nd August at Bradfield Village Hall which is between Reading and Newbury, anyone wishing to book lunch or requiring further details can call Anne Borg on 01865 762201. Please do bring your baby puppies along as well as this is a great opportunity for socialising them, there will be loads of fun events and classes. the popular "have a go" Agility course , junior handling, fancy dress,  produce stalls, tombola etc.   so do come along         and have some fun.  There will also be the opportunity  for your dog to take the Bronze level Good Citizen test. so check out the criteria on the KC website, get training then come along and take the test'

Lets hope that the good weather lasts. We have fortunately not had the thunderstorms that so many have had but I have the feeling that we won't escape them for long!!

Our Dogs
At the time of writing Jo Davidson-Poston has still not found her dog Sparky who went missing from her mother's garden in Edgware. Sparky needs his medication and by now must be in distress so ask at your Vets about a strange Papillon being brought in for treatment.  Sadly Jo has received sick hoax calls claiming to know where he is or saying that he has been knocked down.  How on earth can people be so appalling as to take delight in doing this sort of thing!!

Information and a photograph is on the 'Our Dogs' Notice board.  please circulate it to everyone you think might have seen him  He could be anywhere in the country by now.  He is B/W, heavily ticked and with an asymmetrical blaze. Pray Jo gets good news soon.

A worrying story forwarded by Hazel Barr about a hazard found in fresh mince meat purchased from a supermarket.  While preparing a meal  her informant  gave a small piece of the raw meat to her Boxer dog - something we all have done from time to time I know.  However within a few days she was behaving strangely hanging her head to one side and generally falling about.  It transpired that she had Neospora, a parasite found in fresh meat which invades the brain and spinal cord causing paralysis and blindness, Eight and a half days later she was dead.

Apparently cooking destroys the spores as also does freezing so if you are in the practice of feeding your dogs raw meat do freeze it first. Frightening isn't it,  I expect most people do freeze their mince when they bring it home if it is for dog feeding and thaw it out before use, but they won't have realised the importance of doing so before now.

I am sorry to say that despite great efforts Jo Davidson Poston still has not found Sparky who went missing from her mother's garden in Edgware on 4 August. Information about him has gone out far and wide, thanks to the medium of the Internet and the kind help of many people. Anyone with access to the Internet can see a picture of Sparky on the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club's web site, just follow the link from the Club's Notice Board. Perhaps anyone who has access could download the details and a copy of the picture and pass it on to their own vet, it may help. Sad to say Jo has had a number of sick calls from people some of whom were clearly trying to cash in on the reward offered and others just it would seem because they have sick minds. Let us all hope that by the time these notes are out Jo has been able to locate Sparky.

Hazel Barr recently wrote on Papnet a story about a Boxer dog who having been given some fresh mince meat bought from a well know supermarket was found within a few days to be showing signs of being unwell, behaving oddly and holding her head to one side and losing her balance. She was found to be suffering from Neospora, a parasite that is ingested from contaminated fresh meat. From the consumption it only takes 1-3 days for the parasite to attack the brain, then work its way down the spinal cord, and infect all the major organs and muscles leaving the dog paralysed and blind. Sadly the boxer died within eight days. The parasite is apparently destroyed by cooking and by freezing and cannot use humans as the host body. The latest information I have is that both Defra and the local environmental health people are looking into the case. Something for those folk who use fresh raw meat to feeds their dogs to bear in mind.

Another warning mentioned recently was an increased incidence of lungworm. From information I have seen it appears this is more common in young puppies and can cause coughing and sickness and occasionally the infection can be very severe. As ever when researching a topic on the Internet one comes across conflicting and confusing information, so a word with your vet is advised. However it does seem that a proper worming programme is helpful and also ensuring (not that it is always possible) that your dogs do not play with and eat snails and slugs which it seems can carry this. There is also some concern about drinking vessels that may have been contaminated by snails and slugs, so perhaps not having drinking water where it can be contaminated is a wise precaution. We seem these days to have more and more things to worry about and it is easy to become a little paranoid, I am sure sensible precautions and husbandry will in most cases suffice.

At Bournemouth it was a second CC in dogs to Sue Stanbury's Inixia Troysdale Time Traveller, he is by Inixia Dream Time out of Inixia Jack's Joy at Troysdale and was bred by Mr & Mrs F Bristow. In bitches the CC went to Norma Staff and Pat Munn's Ringlands Disco Dancer at Shamal, O believe also her second, she is by by Int Ch Ringlands Disco Dan out of Ringlands Mary Mary. Reserves went to Sandra Austin and Jane Thompson's Jhanakia Oliver's Story JW in dogs, by Ch Penang Bold Horatio out of Glasafon Fantasy at Jhanakia and in bitches to John and Gary Turner's Kingshaven Truly Scrummy For Bodebi, bred by Jean and Roger Banfield and by Kingshaven Rock 'N Roll out of Bonifee Scintillating Susy at Kingshaven. Best Puppy went to Carolyn and David Roe's Austrene Once Upon A Star for Sunshoo bred by Marion Sloan and by Austrene Once upon a Time out of Ir Ch. Sunshoo Imastarlett Sh CM. Once Upon a Star went on to take Toy Puppy Group 3

Another successful exhibitor at Bournemouth was Karen Maskell whose team of papillons won first place in the Breeders Stakes on the day. Karen's team consisted of  Kazkell Dillons Dream, his litter brother K Definitely Dreamin, litter sister K Jadedoren Dream and half brother K Tai Chi. Dillon's Dream, Definitely Dreamin and Tai Chi are all owned by Karen so it was very much a family affair. A good win for the breed.

I hear from Marion Sloan that Once Upon A Star's litter brother Austrene Once upon a Vision has already gained his Canadian Champion Title, he is now owned by Moira Ure.

New from the Minster Circuit in Ireland, day 1 at the Clonmel & DCC Championship Show GSD & BOB went to Sophie Langdon's Graycaz Panteson Fire For Skyvana, bred of course by Caroline Lee Farnsworth, GSB to Dolly Kavanagh's Denemore Rainbows Cameo, RGSD to Sophie's Christea Crackling Crumpet With Skyvana and RGSB to Mrs J Bayliss' Glyncae Funny Girl. Day 2 at the Killarney & DCC Championship Show, GSB & BOB was Mr & Mrs K Butler's Lucindale Ahoy Titoyti of Aristopaps, GSD Graycaz Panteson Fire of Skyvana, RGSD Christea Crackling Crumpet With Skyvana and RGSB Graycaz Tongue In Cheek With Skyvana.

The Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club Open Show on 5 September has drawn a super entry of 189 dogs making 223 entries, which means our two judges, Don and Sharon Mahoney (Mondelise Papillons, Australia) will be kept very busy indeed. It is hoped that the weather will be fine enough for us to use the outside ring (we can't have any more rain left can we??) which will be set up on the car park to the left as you turn into the car park. (please do not park immediately outside the hall along this side if you see road bollards in place). If the weather is not kind to us we will be in the hall as usual.

The South Wales Papillon Club Championship will be held on 3 October at the Markham Sports and Leisure Centre, King George's Field, Markham, Blackwood, Gwent.  I am not sure whether this is a new venue or not, it is such a shame that the Barry Island venue can no longer be used, I know it was a little way further but it was a super venue. The judge this year will be Toy Specialist Mr F Yeoh whose prefix of course is Yeosinga. Schedules are now out so if you have not had yours either contact the acting Secretary Ms S H Wheeler on 01159 754339 or alternatively you can download a copy for the Club's web site at http://www.southwalespapclub.co.uk
