Caroline Allward-Chebsey has asked me to print the following, although this is aimed at Overseas Members I know a number of folk from Overseas do get Dog World. "The Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club is pleased to announce that in order to assist Overseas Members in paying for their Subscriptions or for purchasing items from the Club, we have now set up a Paypal Account. Those Members who already have their own Paypal account will know how simple this is to operate and sending money through Paypal is of course far less expensive than alternative methods. Full details have been added to the Club's web site (www.papillonclub.co.uk) and can be accessed from the 'Club Pages' under the heading 'Overseas Membership Renewals' as well as from the Club Publications For Sale and Club Items For Sale pages. "
I was sorry to learn from Cheryl Lockett that Lynne Connell of the Larvik Papillons in Australia passed away on 17 November. Lynne had been struggling with cancer for some while, she was just 50 years old. Arrangements have been made for all her dogs, both Papillons and Cavaliers. I know from Cheryl that Lynne was delighted to have received cards and good wishes from folk over here a little while ago and it brought her some comfort at such a difficult time. Our condolences go to her family at this saddest of times. |

Queenie Bruce has asked me to mention that some of the show dates given on the Northern and Eastern Counties Papillon Club Calendar for next year are incorrect so do amend your copies now . These are the dates that need amending; Northern & Eastern Counties Papillon Club Limited Show is on March 6th ; Three Counties Championship Show on June 14th ; City of Birmingham Championship Show on September 2nd; Richmond Championship Show on September 10th; Darlington Championship Show on Sept 18, Papillon Club of Scotland Open Show on November 27th. . Phil Shirley writes "The South of England PC held a very successful seminar at New Haw near Woking last Sunday with a very good attendance both from Papillon owners and also from owners of other breeds, with much interest shown in the breed. It was encouraging to have so many new judges enquiring to join the Papillon judging list which can only lead to a more extensive list , especially on the specialist side..Sadly Veronica Hourihane (who was to talk on the breed Standard) was unwell so Anne Borg stepped in at the last minute and gave a very interesting talk which was well received , there was time for examination of the dogs followed by a lovely lunch with a choice of dishes, in the afternoon Peter Taylor took delegates through the KC Rules and Regs with about 25 persons taking the exam. This is the second seminar the club has arranged and following the established process of rotation ,next years seminar will be held in the South West."

Queenie Bruce has had a nasty fall at home and has broken her shoulder in three places, what a dreadful thing to happen just a few weeks before Christmas. She expects that she will have it immobilised for about six weeks. Try to enjoy the rest if you can Queenie and make all the family wait on you over Christmas!! It is no joke though and I hope you will soon feel better.
The 4 Toy Breed Super Challenge was held( very successfully , I am told) on 20 Nov . Hosted by the KCS Club it involved Charlies, Paps, Pugs and Affenpinschers. The (dog showing)competetive element was judged by David Smith JP , Liz Stannard , and Albert Wight. Winners were :- Best in challenge ( and Best Veteran ) Toni Teasdale's Ch. Tonsarne I Claudius JW.(Affen), Reserve Best in Challenge Michelle Swinge & Gail Saffer's Ragemma Lord Franklin at Balthazar (Pug), Best Special Puppy ( up to 18 months ) was Sue Stanbury's Inixia Wily Willum (Pap) handled by Emily Baker ( daughter of Ros Baker best known for her Coftons KCS). Winner of the Consolation Competition ( for those eliminated first time out ) was Ros Brakes' Ch. Caralean Pipes and Drums ( Affen ) , which shows how tough the competition was in some quarters. The evening dinner/ dance had its own fair share of competitions judged by Howard Ogden.

I am sorry to report that Queenie Bruce has had a nasty accident at home tripping over and managing to break her shoulder in three places. It could have been a lot worse, fortunately she missed the broken glass from the bottle she was carrying and although she also managed to break her glasses with part the frame piercing her brow it did miss here eyes as did the broken glass from her spectacles. Nonetheless a very nasty fall and needless to say Queenie is feeling very bruised and battered and with only one arm unable to do anything even if her doctor would allow her to. She will be out of action until at least early January, even simple tasks like writing her Christmas Cards are proving difficult, whilst she can write the card she can't get them in the envelope, fortunately the grand children are being put to good use there!!! I am sure we all wish Queenie a speedy recovery.
Another event which promises to be enjoyable for Papillon folk is to take place in December. and Phil Shirley has kindly let me have the following details. "The South Of England Papillon Club Christmas Party will take place on 18th December 2004 at Chieveley Village Hall. Near Newbury. Berks . The day will start at 11am with a puppy match followed by J.H.A. classes. The day will finish with Mince Pies and Brandy Butter. everyone welcome: please phone Anne Borg 01865 762201. Let's hope both this and the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Clubs Christmas day on 4 December will have had a good turn out, I am sure some lucky people will be able to attend both - double pleasure. These events are a lot of work for those folk who organise them hopefully folk will show their appreciation by making both events successful.
Ron Stewart who organised the 4 Toy Breed Super Challenge sends the following report "The 4 Toy Breed Super Challenge was held (very successfully , I am told) on 20 Nov . Hosted by the KCS Club it involved Charlies, Paps, Pugs and Affenpinschers. The (dog showing) competetive element was judge by David Smith JP, Liz Stannard , and Albert Wight. Winners were :- Best in challenge ( and Best Veteran ) Toni Teasdale's Ch. Tonsarne I Claudius JW.(Affenpinscher), Reserve Best in Challenge Michelle Swinge & Gail Saffer's Ragemma Lord Franklin at Balthazar (Pug), Best Special Puppy (up to 18 months ) was Sue Stanbury's Inixia Wily Willum (Pap) handled by Emily Baker (daughter of Ros Baker best known for her Coftons KCS). Winner of the Consolation Competition ( for those eliminated first time out ) was Ros Brakes' Ch. Caralean Pipes and Drums (Affenpinscher) , which shows how tough the competition was in some quarters.
The evening dinner/ dance had its own fair share of competitions judged by Howard Ogden , as well as a gripping tie breaker race to win the sweet quiz with an endurance sprint across the dance floor, the eating of a whole tube of Smarties in one go, and sprint back won by the athletic figure of Mia Askins (Headra) representing her table (7). Entertainment was provided by West End singer Sion Lloyd with a selection of musical favourites, and his cousin Jamie Morgan who provide the disco, together with some surprising, and very enjoyable, audience participation. There was a special raffle of original artwork created for the occasion by Deirdre Ashdown, with each of the 4 breeds representing one of the courses of the meal. Deirdre signed and dated each picture with the date of the Challenge creating a unique momento of the occasion for each breed. Surprisingly not all were won by breed specialists !! For KCS Breed columnists to note Mia also won the competition for Best Brace ( all by herself !!). A full account will appear in the Dog Press in the next couple of weeks , complete with photographs"
I was sorry to hear from Brenda Gill that she had lost her Ch Lilgeo Daring Danielle at Chanbre at nearly 15 years of age. Tisha, as she was known, was a rather exhuberant showgirl and Brenda had quite a battle trying to get Tisha to realise she was not in the finals of Come Dancing. She learnt well enough to have a very successful career in the show ring, amongst her achievements she took first place in two large Stakes Classes under the well known all rounder Rainer Vourinen. The first was a Junior Stakes class and two years later at East Of England a first in the Pro Dogs Open Stakes making her at the time the first Papillon to reach the Pro Stakes Finals. Needless to say she will be sorely missed but has left behind many many happy memories of a successful show career and more importantly as a much loved member of the family
The Schedule for the next Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club Open Show (20th February 2005) is now ready and can be accessed from the Club web site. My apologies to Karen and Steve Maskell, they were kind enough recently to let me have some news for the notes which I managed to misplace when clearing up quickly before visitors!!! Their Kazkell Dillon's Dream has officially now been awarded his JW, particularly pleasing for them as it is the first dog which Steve has himself been allowed to show!!! Usually Karen shows the dogs but with two litter brothers obviously Steve had to be called upon and it seems he has been having quite some success with the boy. Dillon's Dream was a little slower in maturing than his brother and tended to be overlooked in favour of him, but in the last 6 months has really come into his own getting some 23 points in that period. One particular win of note was getting Toy Group 1 at the Newmarket and District CS 2 Day Open Show, a show I knew well and one which is very popular. The two boys are both special to Karen and Steve as sadly they lost the sire, Kazkell Definitely Dillon, at only 6 years of age when the two boys were just 7 weeks. Fortunately their dam, Kazkell Daydream, continues to thrive and is now herself doing well in Veteran classes her most recent win being Best Veteran at the Thame recently.

Christmas is near once again and I will not be sending cards again this year but will be making a donation to a local Hospice instead. I have not heard if Mary Whitehill and Elizabeth Cochrane are bringing a card to LKA for donations and signatures for their Charity but I know that they have done so for the past two years so I mention it just in case they do as these sort of things deserve support
