At East of England Dog CC and BOB went to Sunshoo Imascarlet Oscars for Gleniren, bred by Carolyn and David Roe and owned by Carolyn and Glenn Robb and being his third CC gives him his title subject to KC confirmation. I am not sure if this is the first Champion for this partnership although I know previously young Glenn owned Ch Sunshoo Imascarlet Encore in partnership with David. Oscars was short listed in the Group. Bitch CC went to Frasermar Ice Queen owned by Master F Comrie-Bryant, I believe her first. Reserves went to Inixia Gigolo in dogs owned buy Sue Stanbury and Margaret Unwin and in bitches to Irene and Glenn Robb's Gleniren Scarlet Signature. Best Puppy was Elizabeth Cochrane's Tutyak Willie Wonka.

At Leeds Irene and Glenn took the Dog CC and BOB and with it Group 4 with Ch Gleniren Scarlet Monogram with teh bitch CC going to Evelyn Needham with Marshlea Lady Emma, her second. Reserves went to Sunshoo Imascarlet Oscars for Gleniren in dogs and Gleniren Scarlet Signature in bitches, BP was Sue Stanbury's Inixia Troysdale Time To Dream

Irene and Glenn are certainly having a good run lately and not just in the UK, I hear that their Ch Gleniren Premier League went BIS at the Danish Papillon and Phalene Championship Show.

A delighted Helen Verity took BIS at the Northern and Eastern Counties Open Show with Macstrak Minuet JW

Results from Dundalk and District Ch Show., Dog Green Star Connie Letches Conysluck Peter Pan, Reserve Sue Belshaws Belvisaj Simply Charming, Bitch Green Star and BOB Dolly Kavanagh's Denemore Cameo Reflections and Reserve Diane Mooney's Ch Omaonaig Flame Of Tara

A special congratulations to Dawn Weaver and to her phalene Dreamer who ahs qualified for the World Agility Final in Spain in September.

Eng Ch Genevieve's Flirtie Birtie has been having a very successful career since he left these shores to go to Jan Roosens in Belgium. Jan recently flew over to the World Show in Argentina where Birtie picked up his World Title to add to his ever growing list of titles. His full list now is World Winner '05, Int FCI Champion, UK, Belgium, Dutch, Argentinean,South American & Caribbean, Latin American Champion imagine writing that down every time on an entry form!!!! Needless to say Carole and Gerry Stone who bred him and campaigned him to his UK title are delighted with his success..

Sorry the notes are only full of show results, although I know folk like to see these. Needless to say after our move we have been rather busy getting everything straight. Both Mark and I are very appreciative of all those folk who sent us greeting cards on our move, our postman thought it was Christmas!!!

The layout for the Complete Illustrated Standard for the Papillon and Phalene is near to completion and shortly we hope to have Sponsor's copy for their pages. It has been quite a massive undertaking and as if Deirdre did not have enough to do she even took the time to attend Windsor to take photos for people. Hopefully all those who asked her photo their dogs have now received their photos, I say hopefully as it seems a few have not even bothered to let her know they have received the photos, if you are one of them please let her know. Because of all the material we have received the book will be longer than the original 120 A4 pages, it will now be between 140 and 150 pages, the special bookmarks will be double sided and the book will have sewn binding. Because of the extra size and the fact that we are this time having it printed in Portugal, Deirdre has found a wonderful printer there and will be off to Lisbon to finalise arrangements in August, means that although it will be printed asap we won't be rushing it. Meantime if anyone has any useful photos of undershot mouths and long bodied or short legged dogs these would be most useful. Contact Deirdre or me if you can help.

A tragic piece of news Mr Bill Davidson passed away suddenly after having his wisdom teeth out at an Aberdeen Hospital It is thought that he may have suffered a blod clot. He is survived by his son and daughter and to them go great sympathy.  Bill's dog Dandifee Barney Bubbles recently won his and its first CC at SWKA.

The news of Gordon Urquhart is good Sue and Thesbina found him walking wiyhout a frame when they visited and he was hoping to be home on 26th. Having seen the picture of his smashed lorry I am amazed at his progress Hope all goes well with you Gordon,

I reported a couple of weeks ago about the loss of a little Papillon near Pooley Bridge at Penrith Sadly the little dog has been found dead on the fell , it has not been possible to discover why. A sad ending and the owner wishes to thank all those who tried to help find her

If anyone in the SW is interested Sue Stanbury informs me that there is an eyetesting session with Prof. Peter Bedford at Longdown Village Hall, Longdown, Nr Exeter Devon on Tues "nd August from 1200 noon till 5pm Contact Mrs Sharon Brown in advance Tel: 01392 676955 or 07837519047 after 5pm or e-mail capuletgoldiemay@btopenworld.com

I have just heard that Alan Richardson has had an operation to replace a hip joint and send best wishes for a speedy recovery. I know they get them up very quickly after this as my 84 bnyr old friend was horrified to be hoisted out of bed the next day! As Ann says the physiotherapists will start on him and their slogan is "no pain no gain" You have all my sympathy Alan.

Ann also tells me that a friend in Chihuahuas has told of the theft of a Chihuahua and two Papillons from a lady's garden in North London No more details are available but keep on the alert if you hear of a dog suddenly appearing in your neighbourhood and keep a close eye on your own dogs as dog theft is increasing according to the papers.

I am sure everyone will have been shocked to hear the news that Bill Davidson passed away suddenly on 27 July. He had I understand been in Aberdeen Hospital where he had had his wisdom teeth removed and it is believed he suffered a blood clot. Bill had only recently been delighted to receive the CC at SWKA with Dandinfee Barney Bubbles which I believe was a first for owner and dog and had attended to the Northern and Eastern Counties Papillon Club Open Show on 24 July. His wife had passed away several years earlier and he is survived by a son and daughter and his mother to whom e send our condolences. The funeral will take place on Tuesday 2 August at 10.30am., a service will take place at North Church in Keith then on to Keith Cemetery.

At the Bangor Show in Ireland GSD and BOB went to Marion Sloan's Ch Austrene Imelectric Sh.CM, GSB to Diane Mooney's Ch. Omaonaig Flame of Tara, RGSD to Dolly Kavanagh's Ch.Danm Swed & U.K. Ch. Serenglade Gold Sovereign and RGSB to Dolly's Denemore Cameo Reflection

I understand the South Of England Papillon Club's Fun Day was yet another success and I hope to have a full report to put in the notes shortly. The weather was kind and although it threatened to rain it did not. The layout was excellent with pergolas housing Dogs for the Disabled, the club stall and the bring and buy stall and a display of the art work from the Complete Illustrated Standards of the Papillon and Phalene. Deirdre tells me the exhibition went very well and many people showed a lot of interest in this although surprisingly some were still not fully aware of what it was all about. It has of course been well publicised both through its own web site and through the Papillon Club Newsletter and clearly some folk had simply not taken it all in. Anyway at least now folk have had the opportunity of seeing more and of course it can be viewed on the web at http://www.papillons60.freeserve.co.uk/standard.htm

As always at this Club's events the food was I am told wonderful with the usual free Cream Tea, paid by the Club's Patron Sue Jones which is becoming a regular feature much enjoyed, also free tea and coffee all day. Deirdre tells me it was one of the most enjoyable breed events she has been to, in any breed, that the atmosphere was so friendly and everyone seemed to have a most enjoyable day including most importantly the dogs. Congratulations to the Committee of the Club for all their hard work.

Thanks to Phil Shirley, Secretary of the South of England Papillon Club, for sending me a report of the Club's recent successful Fun Day. He writes "Another successful Fun day organised by the South of England Papillon Club was held on the 31st July. This Fun Day is becoming a highlight of the clubs events. As usual the very loyal membership supported the day with many members travelling long distances to attend. Denise and Alec Welsh work hard setting up the Agility display and encouraging members to "Have a go", the Papillons seem to love whizzing round the jumping course (the Club is committed to agility and I am sure Denise will assist anyone wishing to take up this discipline which sees so much success from Papillons). For the fun classes we saw Margaret Unwin in the centre of the ring for the first time sorting out all the various winners, very ably she did so in a kind and considerate manner, the baby puppies particularly were a delight and it bodes well for the future with some very eye catching youngsters already "strutting their stuff".

The catering team as usual worked hard in the kitchen with their extensive catering (everything from Bacon Butties to Chicken Curry and Pavlova!). The assortment of stalls did good business, with Brian Cox on the Club Stall displaying his new range of Wrought Iron Items with Papillon silhouettes, they were snapped up very quickly. There was a lovely assortment of home made and home grown produce on sale. The Dogs for the Disabled manned their stall and drew a lot of interest explaining the varied ways dogs can be trained to assist people with Disabilities.

Deirdre Ashdown brought along Illustrations from "CISPAP" the new publication on the breed, it is obvious from the illustrations it really is going to be an excellent and very informative publication. The day was a relaxed social event with none of the usual show pressures, all too soon everyone was tucking into their Devon Cream Tea, the Fancy Dress parade bought proceedings to a close.

The clubs next organised event will be the Papillon Education Day, to be held on 23rd October, bookings for this are already coming in so make sure to register your place." The Club's web site ahs some enjoyable pictures of this and previous events as well as a full diary of events to come so do have a look at it, the address is http://www.southpapclub.co.uk/

The Northern and Eastern Counties Papillon Club Calendar will hopefully be out at the end of September, the cost is £5.50 plus postage and packing for the UK of 65p, if you have not already ordered your copy do contact Dorothy Simpson as soon as possible to avoid disappointment as the calendar is always highly popular. Dorothy tells me that she managed to get most of information for the calendar apart from one or two judges names for next year which at the time of going to press were not available, As Dorothy mentions Clubs have to submit judges names to the KC at least a couple of years or so in advance so one would think that all next year's judges would be known by now but that's not the case. I am told this year's Calendar has again some lovely photos I must admit it has always been the one calendar I insist on having.

I was pleased to hear on Papnet from Carole Hatch that she had been contacted by Peter James, the late Toni James' husband, who was looking for an older papillon for a pet. Many of us will remember Toni, indeed I suspect many of us still miss her around the ring, and it was nice to hear that the family are all well.

No Ch Shows this week so nothing to report. I am sure exhibitors are glad to have a weekend off!! However that doesn't mean that all was quiet last weekend as the South of England Papillob Club had their now well established Fun Day and i have had the following report on it from Secretary Phil Shirley

"Another successful Fun Day organised by the South of England Papillon Club was held on the 31st July. This Fun Day is becoming a highlight of the clubs events. I also have a note from Sue Morrell "I shall be away in our caravan from this Thursday, 11th August until the following Monday week (going to Bournemouth and Builth Wells) so any enquiries about the New Handbook can be made to either Alan Bartram (liz.bartram@tesco.net) or Chris Pougher (chris@chriskadupaps@fsnet.co.uk)."

There are still warnings on the Internet about the Irish man I mentioned some weeks ago now known to be an Irish Tinker, They like to be known as Travelling People now but in my youth in Ireland they were just Tinkers and not true Romany's. Yes, he did obtain a bitch from Scotland and now, believe it or not, as the bitch has come into season he is phoning around asking for a Stud for her!! Poor little thing - she will hardly have time to get used to her new home before he is breeding from her So much for his wanting a pet for his wheel chair bound mother in Manchester Do beware of any stud enquiries i do know the name he has given and can tell you it if you phone.

Queenie Bruce is terribly upset about the situation as the little bitch is of her breeding and she knew nothing about it until the bitch had been sent to this man and. incidentally, before the sale I was phoned about him by the breeder in question and told her I had misgivings and to make further enquiries as I seemed to remember an earlier occasion when an Irishman with connections in Manchester was active. I do hope the bitch is looked after

Bournemouth certainly was a show for papillons. Bitch CC, her first, and BOB went to Jo Davidson Poston's Ibstock Tululah for Spinillons, bred of course by Rosemary Ayris, a win made even sweeter I am sure by Jo's recent good news, details of which I will give after the Show results. Dog CC went to Irene and Glenn Robb's Ch Gleniren Scarlet Monogram. Reserves went to Pat Munn's Ringlands Golden Image in dogs and Sue Morrell and Thesbina Teague's Serenglade Satanya For Temelora in bitches. BP was Sue and Thesbina's Temelora Just Magic.

Sue and Thesbina's puppy went on to win the Toy Puppy Group, a super win and to add more success for the breed Irene and Glenn's Monogram won the Champions Stakes for the day. They returned for the final day and Monogram ended up winning the Champion Stakes overall, so for the first time in quite a few years a papillon will feature in the finals. Interestingly the Judge Claire Coxall had placed Monogram highly on previous occasions. In July 2003 at the East Of England Championship Show she had made him overall winner of the Petplan Junior Stakes and a week later at Leeds awarded him Group 3. Claire has previously also placed papillons highly, it was I believe Claire who made Carolyn and David Roe's Ch Sunshoo Imacaptain Scarlet BIS at Border Union in 2002.

I mentioned earlier Jo Davidson Poston's good news, well it really is good news and one could almost say miraculous. Many will remember that at the beginning of August last year Jo's papillon Sparky was stolen from her mother's garden in Edgware, if my memory serves me correctly Jo's mother went to answer the front door bell to find no one there, meantime someone had taken Sparky from the back garden. Sparky of course had some medical problems and despite extensive searching nothing more was heard and understandably Jo had felt that without his medication there was little hope for him. Only a few days ago as I write this Jo received a telephone call from a RSPCA vet in London who had just scanned a papillon brought in and yes it was Sparky. The story is rather more complicated than this and I am sure Jo will be writing something for the Club Newsletter, but the important thing is Sparky has now been reunited with Jo. I am sure none of us can really understand how Jo must be feeling but I am equally sure we can imagine. It is an ending none of us could have believed would happen, and if we needed telling a clear reminder that micro chipping is so important.

Carolyne Allward Chebsey writes "Due to a misunderstanding from the PO a large number of the Summer issue of the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club's Newsletter have gone out under-stamped. If you are charged the extra excess charge, due to the administration problems that this would cause the Club, those that wish to claim this back from the Club, would you please keep the receipt and contact the Treasurer direct. You have the option of having a cheque to the value of the excess or your next years subscription reduced accordingly. This matter is being taken up with the PO. Our apologies to those if this causes a problem. " I have some sympathy with the problem of postage,. Having recently been working out the postage costs for the Complete Illustrated Standard of the Papillon and Phalene, now that we are having some 20 or so more pages than originally planned, I went to the Royal Mail's web site to calculate the postage costs. Having checked carefully the costs from the graph there, and working it out (there being a set charge up to 1000g and then additional costs for each 250g over) and having had it double checked I then noticed that they also had a postage calculator on the site. On using this the prices quoted were somewhat different to the original graph. Everything these days seems to be getting more and more complicated, even the simple things. Anyway mistakes can happen, I am sure most like me will simply pay the difference without worrying about having to reclaim from the club.

Carole Leat judged at Bournemouth and her BOB and BCC was Jo Davidson-Poston's Ibstock Tululah for Spinillons RBC went toMorrell& Teague's Serenglade Satanya for Temelora.  DCC was the Robb's Ch Gleniren Scarlet Monogram who also was the All over winner of the Champion Stakes and RDCC was Pat Munn's Ringlands Golden Image.  Best Puppy was Sue and Thesbina's Temelora Just Magic who also won Puppy Group 1.  A good day for Papillons!!

Jo Davidson-Poston has been reunited with her dog Sparky who was stolen from her mother's garden over 12 months ago!!  He was taken for consultation to a RSPCA vet by a 92 yr old lady who had been given him only a few weeks earlier and he had had at least 3 homes since he was stolen. The vet identified him as a stolen dog and the lady contacted Jo who was overjoyed and he is now back home An unbelievable story!

Chris Pougher writes: I am compiling the Champions pages since the 2003 Handbook. For those who have not yet let me have any details , what I require is :- 1) Name  2) Three generation pedigree 3) Date of Birth 4) Sex 5) Colour 6) Owner 7) Breeder 8) CCs awarded i.e. a) Year b) Show c) Judge  Also I require a picture unless you want to use the ones submitted for the handbook pages or the ones on the web site. Please confirm.

I will be at Welsh KC if you want to give me anything there, otherwise B’ham or the Club open show which will be the last opportunity or you can e-mail the details privately to chris@chriskadupaps.fsnetco.uk

The following information comes from Diane Mooney now living in S Ireland:

"If you endorse your registrations in the Uk not for export it does not countfor Southern Ireland, they are considered not exported to here, but thepapers will be endorsed by the IKC not for export so they cant go anyfurther than Ireland, I just found this out and thought perhaps others didnt know."

Carolyne Allward-Chebsey sent the following: "Due to a misunderstanding from the PO a large number of the Summer issue of the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club's Newsletter have gone out under-stamped. "

My Newsletter arrived yesterday understamped but with no excess on it so hopefully most of them will arrive with no extra charge.  It was a very nostalgic Newsletter for me, as ,in her 'Letter From Ireland' Diane Mooney tells of her visit to the Mourne Mountains where she followed the Shimna river up the side of the approach to Slieve Donard( which I climbed every year from the time I was 7 until I was 17!!)  It is truly beautiful and I spent much of my youth there Hence my Affix. Thanks for the memory Diane!

Beryl Newton of the Briber Papillons is to go into Nottingham City Hospital next Wednesday (24th) for a possible operation I do not know what ward she will be in as yet but will keep you informed and wish her a speedy return to good health
