A reminder to all Members of the Northern and Eastern Counties Papillon Club that the AGM will take place on Sunday, 19th of February 2006 at 2.00pm at the Mypetstops Centre
May I remind all members of the Northern & Eastern Club that our AGM is on which is just off the M62 Junction 28 ( there is an excellent map on their web site). The Club will be using this venue for our November Championship shows in future as it seems to be very central for exhibitors and purpose built for dog shows. There will be a buffet lunch before the AGM so if anyone wants to book please contact Anne Richardson as soon as possible. Club Secretary John Edson tells me that all members should have received a schedule for the Club's March 19th Open Show at Thorpe Willoughby - if not, please contact him on 01757 268213. The Club will now having 2 Open shows each year at Thorpe Willoughby, one in March & the other in July.
Helen Verity's Jasper (Sunshoo Jeremy Fisher) recently had his photograph entered in K9 Magazine's "Your K9 Stars" Competition and was short listed out of the hundreds of entries to be in the final 17 which war published in the magazine and on the internet. He ended up taking 3rd place which is a very good result given the number entered.
Still not a lot of news around at the moment, please do let me have details of your wins etc particularly newcomers as it is always nice to hear about new people in the breed having success. Don't be shy let everyone know about your successes. You can telephone me at 01469 530760 or e-mail me at mike@nouveaupaps.co.uk with your news, doggy or not |

The printers knocked a few noughts off Hillary Byers big win in last week’s notes, the amount she won was over two hundred thousand pounds! not £200 as printed.
Manchester Ch Show saw Elizabeth Patrick judging, Elizabeth drew a good entry of 164 dogs for the first Championship show of the year. The bitch CC and BOB went to Mrs I & Mr G ROBB: Ch Gleniren Starlight Kisses, the dog CC went to Mrs J SCOVELL: Ch Caswell Classic Tri, Res dog CC: Mrs K PETERS Beverston Tri As You Like It
and Res bitch CC : Mrs E KIRK Kirkchase Bewished, Best Puppy: Mrs J JOYCE Calajoy Robbie MacFluff, Best Veteran: Mr P L & Mrs C A HANCOCKS Shamal Mystique. The Gleniren kennel have started the year off well, Irene showed their young champion in the Toy group and took G3 under Mr B Mitchell, he had previously awarded Midnight Kisses the CC while still a puppy when he judged last year at UK Toy Dog. Irene and Glenn will be in tough competition next week at the Champion Stakes final, which will be judged by Andrew Brace, good luck to them with Ch Gleniren Scarlet Monogram.
Anne Richardson sends this reminder to all members of the Northern & Eastern Counties Papillon Club, the AGM will be held on Sunday, 19th of February 2006 at 2.00pm

You all seem to be having a quite time this week with little news of home successes so here are a couple bits of overseas news: Sharon and Don Mahoney have just had confirmation of some wonderful news in Australia, their beautiful Phalene male “Mulle”: Ch Caspian's For Pleasure (imp.Swd) has finished No1 Papillon for 2005 in Australia on the Dogzonline System. Of course Phalene and Papillon compete together in Australia and it is an extraordinary achievement for a Phalene to be the top dog, this has never been done before by a Phalene in Australia, congratulations to them both. Meanwhile in America, Am. Ch. Involo Seeing is Believing, owned by Garofolo,Griffin and Newcomb, topped the Toy group at the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship, this prestigious show which is invitational, draws an entry from the top winning dogs and boasts prize money of $225.000 , this years BIS winner taking home over £48.000, that’s not a bad days work.
I am looking forward to hearing about the JHA finals, whatever the outcome im sure Rebecca and John will enjoy themselves. If you have some breed snippets you would like included in the notes, please send them, as news is a bit thin on the ground at the moment. |

Those of you that have the Book of Papillon & Phalene Champions compiled by Carolyn Roe, will be pleased to hear the update is now available, the updates from 2001 to 2005 include 40 New Champions, all photographs are now in colour, plus a new Index. The actual book is also still available and is a not only extremely pleasant to look through; the pedigrees of all the Champions are a very useful reference; contact Carolyn if you would like to reserve an update at david@roesunshoo.freeserve.co.uk
Some small brags were forthcoming this week: Helen Verity says “a big Thank You to all that voted for Jasper (Sunshoo Jeremy Fisher) in the K9 Magazine "Your K9 Stars” competition. Jasper was short listed out of hundreds on entries to be in the final 17 which were published in the Magazine and on the Internet site this quarter, votes were counted for these 17 dogs and although he didn't win he did take 3rd place which is pretty good for a worldwide magazine” congratulations to Helen and of course Jasper.
Congratulations also to Petula Field who had a nice outing with her six year old Red Sable and White dog HappyPappy Forest Flame at Llandudno Canine Society Open Show. Standing under Mrs Rosemary Lord he won all four classes he entered, namely A.V Not Bred By The Exhibitor, A.V Non Sporting, A.V Open Members Stakes and A.V Open. He also took home the hotly contested Members Cup.
I recently published the list of judges for this year and here are three of the remaining four that were not on the list: SKC Aug: Mrs A Skelton, Darlington: Mr S Mallard, Midland Counties: Mr T Nethercott. Only Belfast remains to announce its judge for this year.
Margaret Unwin has asked me to convey her thanks to all those, who rang, sent cards and best wishes, after the death of her partner, Jim, they were very much appreciated.
Finally Rodney and myself would like to thank all our friends in the Papillon world for their very kind messages, cards and gifts on the recent registration of our Civil Partnership, we were quite overwhelmed with your kind thoughts and thank you dearly. |

I was sorry to hear Pearl Peacock has been in Hospital recently, she was due to have a major operation on her shoulder, however they did some keyhole surgery instead and although its still painful I hear Pearl is on the mend and now recuperating at home, Im sure she would appreciate a card to wish her well.
Crufts is fast approaching and Malcolm Fowler has drawn a very good entry of 242 dogs making 258 entries, he is going to have a very busy day. Judging will now commence in our ring (No. 29) with an early start at 8.30am, again Papillons have drawn the largest single judge entry in the Toy group, I wonder if the entry will ever go over the magical figure that would necessitate two judges and two rings? I believe that figure to be in the region of 280, allowing for ten percent absentee rate that would still take the entry over the recommended amount of dogs for a single judge. We shall be seeing many overseas dogs competing at Crufts again this year, and not surprisingly there are over 100 dogs entered from France, 153 from Eire and the 122 from the Netherlands all these countries are within easy travelling distance, however there are also over 34 dogs from the USA and 1 each from as far away as Australia and Japan, many are also coming from Scandinavia. It will be interesting to see the international Papillon entry this year.
I was unable to attend the Papillon Breed Council meeting and AGM last week, a summary of the minutes is available to read on the web at www.papbreedcouncil.mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/ , for those without internet access I shall include a part of the summary from time to time. At this meeting an interesting request was submitted to the agenda from the South Wales Papillon Club: To request that the Kennel Club look at the colour when registering puppies and place restrictions on the terminology used. A Papillon should be predominantly white with patches of colour, however there are puppies being registered by both large and smaller breeders as red/sable etc. with no mention of the colour white. Whilst being a small point it could lead the breed into difficulty in the future especially with micro-chipping and exporting for example. A general discussion took place and it was noted that the standard does call for ‘White with patches of Colour”. The Chairman suggested the Secretary write to the Kennel Club with the following request, “that when checking registration documents they ensure that the colour “White” is included in the colour description, for example: Red/Sable/White”, this was agreed.
The Breed Records Supplement arrived this week with details of the final quarter for 2005. Inline with the current trend, there was an increase in Papillon registrations in 2005, in total 726 Papillons were registered, this being the highest figure since the year 2000.There were 175 puppies registered for the last quarter from 67 litters, this would give an average of just 2.6 puppies per litter, naturally not all puppies in each litter are registered, sometimes only one or two, one litter did catch my eye: Eight puppies! Four dogs and four bitches, someone is going to have their work cut out. During the year 23 Papillons were exported. There were 3 dogs gaining their Junior Warrant titles during the last quarter: Invergarick Modern Milly, Temelora Just Magic and Temelora Storm Petrel, congratulations to all three |

Phil Shirley in his capacity as Secretary of the South of England Papillon Club writes "The South of England Papillon Clubs "Papillons Walk for Charity" will take place on the morning of 15th April at Bradfield prior to the clubs AGM. This year the chosen charity is "Dogs for the Disabled", a very worthy charity that trains dogs to help those who perhaps cannot cope as well as some of us. Sponsorship forms will be sent out to members soon and everyone is invited to take part even if you cannot make the actual walk we invite you to organise your own walk and collect sponsorship which you can forward to the Hon. Secretary Phil Shirley. If you would just like to make a donation please contact any club member, sign their form and make your pledge, sponsorship forms will be available on the South of England Papillon Clubs stand at Crufts this year. So far the clubs members and their Papillons have raised over £4000 for various charities, with your help this figure will rise considerably.Thank you." Bearing in mind the Club has not been in existence for that long to have raised over £4000 is a wonderful effort and the Officer, Committee and Members are to be congratulated for their work. Please give them all the support you can
And on a personal note many congratulations to Phil and his partner Rodney on the recent registration of their Civil Partnership. Phil and Rodney have asked me to pass on their thanks to all their friends in the Papillon world who sent good wishes, cards and gifts . They were quite overwhelmed by everyone's kind thoughts.
Carolyne Allward Chebsey, Editor of the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club Newsletter has asked me to mention that copy for articles etc for the next Spring Issue is needed by 28 February and if anyone wants to place an advertisement in the Newsletter they should contact her immediately with details. I am afraid this information ahs come rather late and it seems there will only be a few days notice, so do telephone Carolyne immediately if you want something put in.
Jim Turner has asked me to mention that Ellen Bailey-Turner (Shazzabars Papillons) has been in hospital for an operation and is now recovering and doing well. She has asked that her thanks be passed on to everyone for all the phone calls you has received. We all hope she continues her good recovery. |

The March issue of Dogs Today has several pages of pictures and articles about Papillons, Heather Aitken wrote the piece on living with Papillons, her dogs Jaroma Geena Gee and Jaroma Dream Maker (bred by Penny Robins) are featured in the pictures with one of her dogs flying over an agility jump, Heather tells me she has had some nice wins with Geena Gee including at Doncaster CS where she took BP and then went on to P Group 2, well done. Anne Borgs dogs are also featured in the article, there is a lovely head study of her Elendil Tobermory.
Another good result with a young bitch was at Henley where Margy Wigans Barleybright Rainshadow over Murvagh won BOB from Junior, sadly Margy was unable to stay for the group that day, she has had previous successes with this young bitch who actually gained her Bronze Good Citizen award at 8 moths old, not surprising as all Margys dogs are so well trained.
Papnet has been rather erratic with its posting of messages of late, with many messages not even appearing, one I did get from Sue Morrell in relation to the new Handbook of the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club, Sue advises: “In the course of publishing such a large number of pages as those included in the latest 2006 handbook there are invariably some errors, but we will be publishing a list of these errors which will be included with the next Club newsletter which is due out soon. So if there are amendments you wish to include, please let me know as soon as possible so that they can be included”. Carolyne Allward-Chebsey tells me, articles etc. for the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club's Spring newsletter will need to be with her by 28th February and if anyone would like an advert would they please immediately contact her with the details of what they want. Carolyne also advises: “the Club's Championship Show Schedules are out now, and can be downloaded from the Club's website www.papillonclub.co.uk or from the Show Manager, 2 Hurst Road,
Southam, Warks. CV47 1HY. The show is to take place on 9th April at the usual venue, The Sports Connexion, Coventry. Entries close. 9th March”.
News of a good overseas win comes from Fribourg in Switzerland where Amicae Star Charm at Kingshaven took the CAC and the international ticket the CACIB with BOB, he is owned by Jean and Roger Banfield and Jan Roosens, bred by Mary Whitehill and handled by George and Alla Jenkins, congratulations.

I am pleased to say I had a chat with Pearl Peacock this week, Pearl is now recovering at home after her operation on her shoulder, Pearl was in her usual good form and sounds to be on the mend.
Please keep your news coming |
