I was sorry to hear from Linda Greenslade that Dolly Kavanagh passed away on 2 January. Dolly had been unwell for some time. As well all know Dolly's Denemore Papillons had had much success not only here and in her native Ireland where they were so ably handled by Sean Carroll but overseas as well. Much of her early success was of course thanks to stock purchased from the Ringlands and Serenglade Kennels and in fact at the last show of the year in Ireland a Serenglade owned by Dolly took BOB. I don't at the time of writing have any further details but I am sure we would all wish to extend our condolences to the family and of course to Sean.
I have been asked to mention that Benita Bartlett now has a new address, which is: Meadow View, Lock Hill, Upper Sapey, Worcs. WR6 6XR. Telephone: 01886 853345
The Dublin Show Society held what I am told was the last Championship Show of the year for Ireland which was in fact the last show to be held there under the old group system following Ireland joining the FCI. DGS and BOB went to Dolly Kavanagh's Ch Serenglade Special Design for Denemore, GSB to Dolly's Denemore Icons Butterfly, RGSD to Diane Mooney's Conysluck Hal O The Wind ad RGSB to Diane's Conysluck Megalala.
I hear also that Jo Davidson Poston's Ch & Ir Ch Ibstock Bright Spark for Spinillons ShCm took BIS at Guildford & District CS Open Show his 8th such award. Others having cause to celebrate were Anna Fraser with Abbeyton To Sweet To Kiss at Bonmeshay who took BOB gaining the last points for her Junior Warrant and went on to take Group4. Another gaining their Junior Warrant recently was Susie & Margaret Orchard and Sue Stanbury with their boy Panspayon C'est La Vie Inixia.
Omitted from my earlier report of the 2006 Results were the names of the nine champions made up last year. These were in alphabetical order Ch Amicae Spirit of Amsema, Ch Bodebi Ray of Success, Multi Ch Connection Tri Symphony, Ch Ibstock Tululah For Spinillons, Ch Inixia Troysdale Time Traveller, Ch Jhanakia Royal Highlander, Ch Pyatshaw Silver Tassie, Ch Ringlands Treasure Story and Ch Wish Upon A Star Over Tricianbri Sh CM |

Several successes to report for the start of the year. At Livingston Canine Society’s Open show on 30 December (Judge Andrew Stewart, Ingerdorm), Abbeyton To Sweet to Kiss at Bonmeshay gained her final point for the Junior Warrant by winning First in Junior, First in Graduate, going BOB and then crowning it by winning Group 4 overall: the Group judge was Hilary Byers (Chappell). Congratulations to her and her owner Anna Fraser. Another Junior Warrant (subject to KC confirmation of course) was completed by Susie and Margaret Orchard (Panspayon) at the Weston-super-Mare C.S. open show, where Panspayon C’Est La Vie Inixia was awarded his last point by judge Sophie Langdon. This is their first Junior Warrant so they were over the moon! At the same show Sue Stanbury’s Inixia Crown Jewel won BOB, and RBOB and BPIB was C’Est La Vie’s brother from a later litter, Panspayon Dancetime. Both are sired by Ch. Inixia Troysdale Time Traveller, dam Inixia Madeline avec Panspayon. I hope I’ve got this right!
Diane Mooney reports from Ireland that at their last show of the year, the Dublin Canine Society’s Ch. Show (not sure of the date, but the report came on 29 December), DGS and BOB was Kavanagh’s Ch. Serenglade Special Design for Denemore, and RDGS was Mooney’s Conysluck Hal o’ the Wind. BGS was Kavanagh’s Denemore Icon’s Butterfly and RBGS was Mooney’s Conysluck Megalala. This is their last show on the old group system: from 2007 they will be on the FCI system which puts Paps and Phalènes in the companion group with Poodles, Llasa Apsos, etc.
The saddest news I have to report, from Linda Greenslade, is that Dolly Kavanagh, whom everyone knew and loved, and about whom I never heard a word that was not full of admiration, died on Tuesday. She will be very greatly missed - even more so in Ireland. I’m not sure what age she actually reached, but it would not have made a whit of difference what it was - she was full of life and enthusiasm and abundant interest in people as well as dogs. She was always a firm support for Sean Carroll and his nephew James who showed her dogs, and who trained and looked after most of them. And I don’t need to say that the Denemore champions are known all over the world.
Ron John judged at the Sleaford C.S. show at Newark on 27 December, and found his BOB in Lynda Woodrow’s Ablazzor Christmas Cracker at Lynflyer, bred by Leslie Morton - so congratulations to Lynda, Leslie and Christmas Cracker (a good name for a win at this time of year!). And good to hear that Ron is keeping up his involvement with dogs, after the sad loss of his wife only a little while ago,
Please keep your news coming in. My new computer is still not functioning, but you can email still on the old one, at anneborg@tiscali.co.uk. Failing that, do phone - best times are early morning and late evening (01865-762201). |

For some reason or other it seems the notes I have forwarded over the last few weeks have disappointingly not appeared so that for the last two or three weeks no notes have appeared. Quite how this has happened I do not know but hope it will soon be back to normal.
Sue Victor in her capacity as Trophy Steward for the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club writes "Could all Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club members who have been competing in Obedience with their papillons please contact me as soon as possible with their wins and places from 2006. I am presently compiling these results to find the Top Winning Obedience Papillon for the Year. Any member wishing their results to be included should contact me, either by email ian.victor@ntlworld.com or by post: Oxgang, Flatts Lane, Calverton, Notts NG14 6JZ. Please include name of show, date, class(es) entered and place awarded, along with your dog's name and your contact information. Information to be with me by 31st January, please. Any queries...give me a call on 0115 911 4774."
A new championship show held for the first time this year Boston & District Canine Society had CC's available for Papillons with Gordon Urquhart judging. Both CC's went to appropriately festive named exhibits, Dog CC, I believe his first, and BOB went to Michelle Osborne and Sue Stanbury's Tykkdewas Santa's Gift To Inixia with Bitch CC, her second, going to Lynn Woodrow's Ablazzor Christmas Cracker at Lynflyer. Reserves went to Caroline Lees' Ch Bodebi Ray Of Success at Lafford in dogs and Elizabeth Cochrane's Tijuana Victoria in bitches. BP was Sue Stanbury's Panspayon Stepin Out With Inixia
News is sparse at the moment so please let me have details of any Group Placements at Open Shows or other worthy wins or indeed any news of interest. If you don't let me know I can't print it!!! |

It seems incredible that the year has hardly ended and that I should be reporting the results of the first show of 2007, but that is the case. At the new Boston Championship Show at Newark, the judge for Papillons was Gordon Urquhart (Blackpark). He found his DCC in Stanbury and Osborne’s Tykkydewas Santa’s Gift to Inixia (bred by Michelle Osborne and, I think, her first CC with a home-bred dog); and his BCC was Woodrow’s Ablazzor Christmas Cracker at Lynflyer (both good seasonal names, as I commented last week on Christmas Cracker!). RDCC was Lees’ Ch Bodebi Ray of Success at Lafford and RBCC was Cochrane’s Tijuana Victoria. Best Puppy was Stanbury’s Panspayon Stepin Out with Inixia. Stepin Out carried on his winning ways on Sunday, when he won the Puppy Group at Taunton & District C.S.: at the same show Inixia Wily Willum was Reserve in the Toy Group, but the icing on the cake was Ch Inixia So Be It for Elendil’s winning both the Veteran Group and then going on to Best Veteran in Show.

Don’t forget the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club’s Seminar at Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk on Saturday 10 February 2007, if you haven’t already booked your place. It is in two sections: Section 1 is for experienced judges aspiring to go on to the A3 list (Assessors are Rosalie Brady, Roger Chaston and Carolyne Allward-Chebsey), and Section 2 is for prospective judges with an interest in the breed, working to go on to the B List; this section is led by Stephen Bardwell. Places are limited to 15 for each section, and the cost is £15 per section for the day, including food and refeshments. Contact Doug Colyer at Deepfield, Sudbourne, Woodbridge, Suffolk, IP12 2BE, or email douglas@shirando.freeserve.co.uk
I’ve had an email from Phil Shirley which says ‘Hi from the South Atlantic!’ and it sounds of course as though he and Rodney are having a brilliant time - sun, sea, sightseeing, good food and Bridge)! I will do my best to make his life a misery when he eventually gets back ...!
Please keep the news coming in. |

The Annual Trophy results are available - thanks go to Viv Cotton who I think does all the work on this: Top Dog (Shimna Trophy) was CH Caswell Classic Tri (5 BOB, 6 CC, 1 RCC); Top Bitch (Elendil Trophy) was CH Gleniren Starlight Kisses (3 BOB, 8CC, 5 RCC), so Top Winning Papillon overall (Ringlands Trophy) was Gleniren Starlight Kisses. Many congratulations to both these dogs - what a stunning year they and their owners have had! The Top CH Show Winner (Graycaz Trophy) (winning most classes at Ch Shows) was Feorlig Midnight in Georgia, with 13 wins (she also has her JW). Top Puppy (Kuruso Trophy) was Bodebi Rhythm is a Dancer (4 BP awards); Top Owners (Monamie Trophy) were Irene and Glenn Robb (Gleniren), who also took the Top Breeder award (Joan Brown Rose Bowl) with 25 points.Top Brood Bitch (Greenhedges Trophy) was Elvistime Lady Holly at Bodebi and Top Stud Dog (Miss Taylor and Charthamcoombe Tristam Trophy) was Daneview Rhythm & Blues. I expect the full list of runners-up will be published in the Newsletter - I had better not take up more space here.
New Papillon exhibitor Mr J. Magri had another success with Frasermar Fairy Tales of Rosamie, who went BPIB at SWECA (Judge Jo Davidson-Poston), and then went on to win the Puppy Group (Judge John Miles) and then BPIS under Sue Bird - congratulations to dog and owner! Shirley Colyer won BOB and then Group 3 - sorry I don't know which dog - so she had a very good day.
Margaret Sanders and Janette Tait had a stunning day at the Houghton-le-Spring C.S. show on 14 Jan. when their six-and-half month-old puppy, Sandtait Golden Boy (on only his second time out) won BOB (Judge Mr T. Anderson), PG1, second in the Toy Group and BPIS! - That was a day to remember!
Scottish news: at the Kirkintilloch & Lenzie DCS on 13 Jan., under judge Caroline Nixon, Abbeyton To Sweet to Kiss at Bonmeshay won BOB and Group 3: Best AV Toy Puppy was Abbeyton Some Like It Hot, who then won Special BP in Group and Reserve Special BP in Show. The previous week at Paisley, under judge Charlotte McNamara, Some Like It Hot won BOB, Group 3, 1st AV Toy Puppy and Special BP in Group (Group Judge was Mrs Lyn Pemberton (Lynbank).
Many people will remember Didi, the Pap who did so stunningly as a Hearing Dog (you may remember seeing her at Crufts, wearing her Hearing Dog regalia): she has sadly died at 11, after giving 10 years of service to her owner - such a good record. She was also a good fund-raiser for the cause - she had raised thousands of pounds at events all over the country and had appeared on the TV show, Pet Rescue, demonstrating the different stages of training to become a Hearing Dog.
Don't forget, Friday 29 Jan. is the closing date for entries to the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club Open Show: this year at a new venue, Napton Village Hall, Napton, Southam, nr. Coventry: Judge Mrs D. Gornall.
Have a good week, and keep the news coming in, please. The new computer is behaving well, fingers crossed! |
